Conion V-121f BoomPI Restoration and upgrade.

Started on this project quite a while back. Wanted the 80's look but modern functionality BoomPI was born (well it has probably been done before but I'm not aware of it). Restored the box repairing the tape deck and retr0bright'ing of the case etc Fitted a raspberry PI 3 inside the case running KODI media centre headless. also has a USB DAC for better sound quality. Battery powered with a 18650 lithium battery, Ive cut the circuit that the beat cancel switch was using and it now controls the...Read More...

most expensive buy-it-now boombox on ebay

I wonder what is the rationale of some ebay prices. Recently a brand new JVC RC-M70L sold for no less than € 1.562. That was possibly the most expensive boombox so far, but (1) it was a collector's item, and (2) it was auctioned. It's easy to be carried away one step away from crowning a lifetime search. But what to do of a JVC RV-NB51 for € 1.184,50 , when nine were sold by the same guy for € 236,90 and 10 more boombox are still available?Read More...

Buyer's Remorse (Again?)

I won an Aiwa CS-600U -- a four-radio-band, single-cassette-deck recorder -- in an eBay auction that ended August 21, 2016. The seller -- apparently a fifteen-year eBay member -- said that the "CASSETTE [DECK] DOES NOT WORK BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS VERY WELL." The shipping was fast and I got it yesterday, a lot sooner than expected. The seller did say the item would be well-packaged. And, yes, it certainly took me a while to unpack and unwrap that dauntingly packaged item! The boombox is in...Read More...

Technics M260

Well, I found nothing about this nice deck, so I'm posting something about it. It's a deck from 1981, no electronic keys, no tape detection, only Dolby B, just one motor... but it's a 3-head-deck, and with Metal tape it should reach up to 20 kHz! This is amazing for a 35 year old tapedeck! The condition is good, the headphone volume knob scratched a bit, but recording works and it erases even high-density magnetic tape completely. Counter and level meters are really large, the counter 1 cm...Read More...

I got my X200!!

Oops I forgot to make a post about this two months ago... oh well I won the auction in July for $45 dollars shipped.. Pretty happy so far with it. The bass isn't as loud, (or noticeable) as I was hoping, but I'm normally gonna have it sitting by me anyway. Unfortunately the 63Hz slider on the EQ is loose, so I have it taped to keep it up (which doesn't work very well) The tape deck's motor is toast, so far having trouble finding a replacement. CD laser is not the strongest, tuner's preset...Read More...

I am not so lucky as boomboxfella deech, but I can't complain about some great finds in the wild. Yet, despite my efforts, so far I have been unable to find a box I really want in my collection. The fact is, the more I think of it, the more I realize that I probably got the imprinting from a break-streetdance I witnessed about two decades ago in a foreign country. Guess which box was providing the soundtrack? Of course, the one that is nowhere to be found except in that country. So I dreamt...Read More...

G'day folks!

MOGEZART
Hi everyone, I've almost no experience in electronics yet, so I'm hoping that joining this community will be a big help along my path of discovery. Today I picked up a SANYO M9716F that appeared to be in fairly good condition, but when I plugged it in nothing happened. I disconnected the speakers to test them out on another player and was pleased by their sound quality. I then decided I would like to try to fix the SANYO and possibly continue on to restore the many awesome retro and vintage...Read More...
