Not sure if this is a common practice. I'm completely new to this. Is there an online source (apart from eBay) with information about cassette values and rarity?

I don't have many but I'd be willing to swap if anyone is keen.

I would be willing to swap if you have anything I am interested in.

Since I got ripped off before, unless it’s someone I know I will not be sending any tapes out first. I swapped a metal tape with a member, I never got one back but just excuses saying I will post it this weekend or when i get back from holiday I’ll etc, I gave up asking after about 2 years of excuses.

There will always be crooks who take advantage of our trust and kindness. I'll try to dig up my stuff in a couple of days. Not sure what I have. Pretty basic stuff. I'm located in Singapore so hopefully shipping doesn't kill the deal.

What I used to do with all my hobbies (haven't been active for years) is to provide my buyer/trade partner pictures of postal receipts/slips/document/tracking no. and pictures of the packed items. It gives them some comfort that I am actually taking action (and not playing smoke and mirror games). I've also been burnt badly before in the past (vintage star wars, vintage guitar effects, graded game/sports cards, etc.). But I've also had very good experiences. Hope to only have the latter here.

I have had nothing but success swapping but once is enough, especially when it comes to tapes. Numbers are going down and the prices are going up, so don’t want to lose anymore tapes :wink2

I only recently found my old Walkmans and cassettes. That's what prompted me to find out more about the collecting hobby and the search led me here. Wasn't aware how prices have gone up but I just looked at eBay. Yikes. Why are some over a hundred bucks??

I dug through a bit of my own stash but I can't even remember which years they are from or what value they fetch these days. How do I find out the production year of each model? I can feel myself getting sucked into this real quick. It's fun!

Some of the more good metal tapes are high due to collectors and some tapes having limited numbers out there. Tapes Like Sony Super Metal Master, TDK MA-XG / MA-R, Maxell Vertex where expensive in the first place so not many made hence they are a lot of money now.
I would never pay that kind of prices for them.

TDK MA-R when new was £5.99 and now they are going for £50+ on eBay
TDK MA-XG when new was £9.99 add now they are going for £35+ on eBay
Maxell Vertex when new was £12.99 and now they are going for £60+ on eBay

Anyone paying that needs their heads tested, but if it makes them happy why not

There are a few sites that give you dates of cassettes, just google it.

Thanks. I've googled a couple are very helpful. But I have some models that I cannot identify. I think maybe my ones are too common or maybe even too new to be of interest to collectors.

It’s good as you will have experiences of loads of different brands of tapes and hopefully you will know which once to buy and which once to avoid :wink2

Thanks Longman. Came across that database when researching. I Guess the difficulty now is finding out how common or uncommon the ones I have are. Just so I can go about swapping fairly or if the event swaps don't materialise, to sell them fairly so I can buy the ones I fancy.

I could not find any Thats or RAKS tapes
    around here.
    So it depends on location.
