folks, i'm busy restoring a Grundig mini-receiver. got almost everything right yet but the plastic-window of the tuner turned milky - it's not scratched, just getting blind. is there a way to fix it or do i have to look for replacement ? thanks for support !
I have a similar issue with a jvc rc-575 here is a few pictures of it as you can see with different exposures It is Green in color I wish I knew of a solution to get this back to clear too?
Foolproof way of dealing with aged acrylic is to sand and polish it: Spit Shine talk or flame-polish if you are brave enough: Flame-polishing Or try this: Wet the window with a drop of water, if milkiness disappears then you can just put a layer of come clearcoat, just do not use spray-can because it has to "seep" into all those micro-cracks while still wet. The easiest would be Pledge floor Finish: inert, rock-hard when dry. One of the "know-how" secrets among plastic modelers If Pledge does not work, you can always go with Plan A
Pledge can be further diluted with some alcohol in water, meaning Stoli... Now you know why Pledge is my buddy And you can tint it with water-based (acrylic) "clear" paints (Tamiya)!!!
Novus used to be the go-to polish back when I was working in the plastic industry. https://www.novuspolish.com/index.html
@Mister X +1!!! Nothing beats the elbow-work and sore muscles when polishing plastic headlights on my old Saab!!
I grabbed the stuff with the foam ball and ran it through a corded drill, worked great! (on my car lights)
