Were they only European Nick or did they have a North American AKA?

As far as I can see, Junichi Matsuzaki is more than just a collector. Waiting forward to read about the Matsuzaki Denki forthcoming brand... :)

They were best described as 'Market Quality' lol

But like so many 'Mickey Mouse' brands in the late 70's, they were well made & quite nice........

Here's the one I had - would love to get a minty one now

Fair Mate is a brand of Asahi Electronics Co.,Ltd.,
I've seen quite a lot of JDM Fair Mate radios,
by no means can it be called a Mickey Mouse brand, lol..

I was referring to the one I had! lol

The JVC rip-off is lovely, perhaps they moved upmarket in later years - their 70's stuff was mickey mouse mainly, sold in cheap discount shops here (Argos etc) & especially in the era of the 'Combat Radios' remember them?

I am a huge fan of generic & lower end stuff from the day - it never really got a proper look in :eyepopping:

Some (Not all) of it is pretty damn good

Sadly, my Fairmate was of very questionable quality!! It worked sometimes!

My point is: I loved mine despite being an 'El Cheapo' model

Rip-off? Maybe you can name the original JVC model then? ;)

PC3 Maybe..........not sure but it's definitely a nod to the PC series of the time!!

Maybe partly JVC? But it's still a rip-off in my world as it's not a JVC :lollegs:

I would like one though - these are what I really like!!

Sadly Fairmate in the UK at least was a late 70's budget brand - I certainly have never seen an RD-6600!

Portable Compo series from JVC/Victor ruleZZ all right, love them too. :nodding:

As for RD-6600, I've seen only the pics of the JDM model.

There's some good articles in the newspaper if you use the search function, I'm reading about the demise of Sanyo, they built everything and then had to sell off divisions one at a time.
