That Uher looks well made and i love that leather cover. That thing is gonna look gorgeous as it ages and softens. Love it.
...and another handbag: 1972 UHER CR-124 stereo, autoreverse, portable real hifi cassette-deck when I told my dad that I'm in love with those UHER-decks, he told me he still got the one he bought in 1972 NEW, and he gave it to me (!) Check that snap-on-extra leatherette for accessories (powersupply, spare lead-recheargable battery and div. cables), it comes with original manual, circuit-diagram etc. - what a nice inheritage ;-) Wow, this UHER- collection here grows FAST !

...and now got the „triplet“ complete: CR-124 1st. series (1971, to be recognized by round eject button, different buttons for tape-functions and volume plus a few technical differences inside), CR-124 2nd. series (late 1971 untill 1974) and finally CR-124 (only 1975). as written in a different fred, the CR-124 was in 1971 the smallest portable stereo cassette recorder and the first unit featuring auto reverse. was followed by almost identical CR-210 and CR-240 (wider, nicer vu‘s, and no auto reverse). this was also the last unit developed by UHER themselves. later there was a modified model CR-160AV and CR-1600, change to those two models was logic control and a connector to trigger your super8- camera for proper sound. even still made in munich they were a construction from company ASSMANN, who bought UHER. the era of all those great (based on the 124) units endet in 1990, as the munich factory as the last piece of UHER stopped producing. actually besides the UHER report reel-to-reel machines and those decks there was nothing else real UHER since ~ 1980 (including A few boomboxes and UHER Tramp „walkman“, it‘s actually a „cloneman“, at least a very good one) - it was all OEM far east, unfortunately mainly junk...
If only they could talk? My buddy was in radio, he has a couple of portable DATs he'll give me after he uploads his tapes full of interviews, mostly with very famous musicians from the 80's and 90's. Most of these machines did amazing things over their lifespan that we'll never know about, especially the professional and field recorders. I'm also checking out the counter reset buttons and the slotted panel screws.
The plot of "ABBA - The Movie" revolves around a DJ/Reporter following them around Australia with his Reel to Reel Field Recorder, trying to get an interview with them during their 1977 tour there.
I'm slightly surprised leather cases haven't been used in more gear. I had a Grundig portable YB-P 2000 SW (Yachtboy) that had a clip on leather / suede cover that folded back as a desk stand (designed by FA Porsche no surprise) you felt like a digital Philleas Fogg every time you opened it. The UHER is way sexier than LV. A couple of those slotted screws are out of alignment ..... tut tut
I get on garagejournal.com a lot and they are always taking about slot alignment for electric equipment. One of the Japanese Marantz Boomboxes I posted had a full case, super beautiful. While I couldn't afford anything expensive in the old days I would have jumped on a nice leather case for my M-90 or M-70 if I had bought one. Field recorders tended to have nice cases but UHER blows them all away, the case looks like it's from a high-end women's shop, super-thick and extremely good looking.
Beautiful autoreverser! That's a nice looking unit, I got lucky on my little CR 160 AV after you had mentioned them, the price on these recorders is starting to go through the roof, please post more photos of the 4400.
