Earlier this year I was asked to design the head for the Bobby Moore 1966 50th anniversay edition of Action Man.

The brief was simple... design the likeness, but to make it look as if it was produced in 1966, using the limitations of the technology of that period, and in keeping with the Action Man (UK version of GI JOE) aesthetic of the period.

Its in the shops now. Really enjoyed this little project.

Wow what a cool project to be involved in, i take it design is your field of expertise, what other projects have you been involved in?

I think you nailed the look and feel on this one, I was born in the seventies but had plenty of action men.

    Thanks

I actually own a Visual effects studio and work on films
    Here's a few

But toy design has always fascinated me. And action Man is something I am very passionate about. So when they called, it was a no brainer for me.

    Oh my...

You seem to have worked on many of my favourite films!

Didn't know what Lidar was so googled it and all that I can find is about laser measuring...what is it in this context?

Oh and waaaay cool on the Bobby Moore action man!

    Interesting stuff about Action Man.
I didn't realise was also his 50th birthday this year

For those who can't Google, some more details on the Bobby Moore figure.

There seems to be something for everyone in your Filmography.
My favourite in the list would have to be "The Boat That Rocked".
Almost a documentary about life in Swinging Britain in the 1960s
and plenty of personal audio gear - 1960s style.

Lidar for VFX is basically 3D laser scanning any film set, location or environment to then create an accurate CG model. This may be used to extend a set that only partially built, for FX work like blowing stuff up or to give the character animators a virtual version of the area was shot so they know how a character like Hulk needs to interact with that environment.

    Pretty cool stuff

Yes, boat that rocked (Pirate Radio in the US) was ok. Could have been better.

Yep action Man is 50. And fortunately the relaunch is in line with the 60's and 70's style as opposed to the horrific 90's version which was a total betrayal.
