Hi Folks! Finally set up an account on this amazing forum, the community already helped me out on several walkman restoration Projects I really enjoy bringing back old cassette players and wanted to share some of the experience fixing old walkmans with the forum, since it already helped me al lot when i got stuck at a repair attempt Current lineup: Sony WM-D6C, the most reliable portable cassette recorder i've seen so far Sony WM DD2, awesome sounding little Design Icon from the 80s, works but has the imfamous Center gear problem, might fix that this year.... Sony WM D3, currently dismantled for repairs, still struggeling with the small broken gear... most complicated walkman i've ever come across Toshiba KT-4176 "Walky", just received a donated drive belt from a Sony WM-EX662, works surprisingly well. Currently not working: Sony WM-EX662 and WM-EX510 Sony Discman D99, nothing that special, but i like the bulky design. I had to resurrect it already 2 times, it's quiet fragile... TD-X502 Tape Deck and an old Revox A77 Mk IV Cheers! Max
Welcome! Beautiful Revox you've got there... What is downstream of the Beauty??? Did you restore it yourself? D-99 is a bummer, same as D-90 but with 1-bit DAC, the proof that Evolution is not always Progressive...
The A77 was already in pretty good condition when i got it, the only thing was a loose contact at the power plug. So far it's perfectly reliable, just needs some clean up once in while... It's actually easier getting new tape reels than finding decent compact cassette Tapes It has Dolby B, but I never use it, the hissing level is already low enough. I might replace the Audio In and Outputs to modern connector spacing, since the newer chinch cables are a bit wider than they used to be in the 70s. I love the WM-D3, hope to get it back to life soon!
