Today I stumbled upon those photos I made a couple of years ago when I received this National scored in Japan and decided to share some pictures with you. :)
I stashed it away more than a year ago and don't really now remember how it looks like in flesh. :D

I am aware that there is the same Panasonic model, saw those Panny's several times on Ebay in the US.

Very nice, there's an ad for this box blowing out a candle if I'm not mistaken.

Great, thanks! :) Like those old ads!

Indeed, this National/Panny has 4 small bass ports (2 on each side).
Plus, a separate square active bass speaker in the middle, initially I thought it was a passive radiator but No..

Thanks, bud. :) Yes, it was a love at first sight..
I love the looks of many stereos of the second half of 80s.

I tend to prefer the look of 1970s-early 1980s boxes, but I find some late 80s boxes stunning. For what I have seen and listened to so far, I'd say that, in general, late 80s boxes tend to sound better than average earlier models, have deeper basses and some of them have great looks. On the contrary, in general build quality leaves somehow to be desired. But a National is always a National; and the rectangular design of the RX-FW 39 is so beautiful... :)

A-ha, I, too, like early 80s bbx looks, as for 70s, maybe, I'd say the very late 70s and only some stereos.
The reason is probably I was too young for the early-mid 70s radios.

Generally I'd say I do like the whole "Golden Age" designs (throughout the 80s).
Plus, the "Swan song" - a few top models of the last "real" boomers from Matsushita (RX-CTs, RX-DTs), Sanyo from the beginning till mid 90s. Then it was all over. :(

Um–hum, it does.. for it's size of course and at a reasonable volume level, as far as I can remember.. :)
Haven't seen Panny for maybe 2 years or so - stashed away due to the space limits.:dramaqueen:

Space is a problem the more you get the less you have.

I scored this Sharp QT88 in Dec 2015, more than 1.5 years ago, on Yahoo Japan,
then it spent all those days up until last Saturday unopened, in the shipping box it landed from Japan.
Should've opened it earlier maybe, :)
turned out to be minty, love those colours and shape.. :)

Actually, I disassembled mine, and discovered that only the lower ports are real. The upper ports are fake. :lollegs:

Also the XBS woofer is round, not square. It is mounted to a square grill to make it look square, but it's round.
