Back to back in less than 3 weeks I manage to purchased 2 of my favorite 80's vintage boomboxes. Here to share with you some images how I restore the aesthetic level and functionality of this old JVC component.

The paper speaker's cone has turned brownish over the years, somehow I was inspired using poster colour to restore it. And it turn out quite good as it will render a protective layer to the cone.

I guess so, believed that PC6 is the biggest and heaviest in the PC series.

    Almost.. :)

Victor PC-7 is a bit heavier:

PC-7 - 15 kg (without batteries), weighed myself vs. PC-6 - 13.3 kg (including batteries and fixtures), as per specs..

    UPD: Pc-5 - 12.4 kg.

Sorry to be bringing this old puppy up again, but I recently got one of these for free, in lovely condition and all with all the original pieces still there, but, the cassette deck does not run and I suspect it has something to do with a pretty bad battery acid leak that has spilt onto the circuit board. Any ideas how to fix it? There is absolutely no action what so ever to detect when I push the buttons on the cassette deck. Radio and EQ work fine. The belt from the motor to the flywheel is intact... Any idea? Can the motor itself have died? Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I sure hope to get this working again.

Do you any kind of test meter ? If so check that the expected voltage is on the motor wires when you press play etc.
If it is the motpr is probably faulty. If not the fault is elsewhere.

If you don't have a test meter I just looked at Ebay at there are loads which would be adequate for basic checks like this for under £10.
Alternatively you can get them for a bit more in Car accessory shops. The are useful for all sorts of things like checking speakers, switches batteries etc.

p.s As I have said in threads about repairing before, if you aren't experienced in electronic repairs don't go poking around inside a Boombox while powering it from the mains. Batteries are far safer and shouldn't be a risk.

In fact it doesn't matter for me if the cassette deck works or not. Cause I have many alternatives of input source. The main reason I worked on the deck is just to get the level meter functional. Instead I recommend you using the FM Modular MP3 car player and you won't believe the sound quality out of your JVC. It's so convenient, small and could play it remotely via FM transmission.

Hi T-ster, I modify the unit by removing the protruding stick and power it using an external power supply. Please observe the correct polarity to avoid burnt out your unit. I have 2 units with me the red and green version. You can get them from EBay in less than 8usd. It supports both SD card and USB
