I'm in the market for another box and found this fascinating webpage, while some of these we might agree with, I'm a little surprised at Jensen, Memorex and Pyle finally breaking the top 10 after 30+ years of trying. Also surprising is the complete snubbing of the cornerstone brands like JVC, Marantz, Pioneer, Sanyo, etc....

A nice article with some boombox history at the end.

I'm not against modern boomboxes and even have a handful but I wouldn't buy any of those in the list, they're all terrible lol

Sanyo doesn't exist any longer. I'm not sure Marantz does either. In the UK JVC seems to be a brand for cheap Turkish TVs "made under licence. Pioneer seem to have moved on to other things like Hi Fi and Car Stereo.

Here is the 8 Bit Guys review of the X Bass

I think the end was a little over the top. Its probably OK if you just want a radio to use while decorating or similar and don't want to risk using something decent.

The Brooklyn GPO has a memory of the Lasonic TRC 920, in turn the bigger brother of the Sanyo M7900K, and plays tape and CD:

Not such a big deal, for the price it goes. But at least visually and functionally it's a good candidate.

Gotta agree Si. I have a work radio that runs off 18V batteries and hooks up my phone, but it it reminds me of my Mother In Law, "yappy" sound, scary looks and even if you left it somewhere, no one would take it away.

Don't tell my wife I said any of this please:beg

This was more 2016 than 2017. But I still have to say getting on this bandwagon was essential
