So I picked up a trashed 777 for parts, sold as a non-working, stripped shell.

Here it is before. It had a hard life as a shopfitters box and was splattered with some very hard white stuff that actually melted the surface of the plastic!

So this is what was wrong/missing:

    Trashed surfaces with craters!
Back and top had been resprayed over everything; over the craters, the handle, even the aerial stubs
    Missing the 4 main speakers
    Deck doors very rough
Left hand hinge of deck 1 busted
    Filthy inside and out
    Missing casing screws
    Missing screws internally
Small bit of rear casing damaged along edge
    Headphone sockets hanging out
    Led strip not secure
    Tuner window broken and removed
    Missing toggle switches
    Broken aerials

So basically a bit of a mess!

Stripped it, serviced the components, repaired and filled the casing front and back, sanded and resprayed with primer, colour and lacquer about 10 coats in total. Rebelted the decks. Replaced all the missing screws, fitted speakers from a Sharp GF9191 and a GF575. Took 20+ hours.

    Now kicks ass!

Works perfectly and sounds great on radio and line in. Deck 1 works. VU's and all switches work perfectly. Taken a lot of work and still waiting for a new tuner window from Japan and I've still got to polish the deck doors. But it's been booming as I do the final detailing and I love it! Best way to get a 777...cheap! And always great to save a good box from the trash :)

Oh and the rec level button has a hairline crack so is being glued so that'll be on it tomorrow. The tuner glass is somewhere in the uk postal system now so should arrive in a day or so :)

    Wow Si that is amazing!!

Jeez that's quite a transformation, it looks really really rough on the casing in the before pics, the respray looks great. It's easy to drop 500 notes and pick up a 777 but this has to be so much more fulfilling, if your Yorkshire blood is strong the lure of a great buy over a really expensive buy must be strong.

The difference is night and day and the woofers look super clean, black really suits it.

How do you like the sound? I think they vary as some say they sound muddy without a speaker change but mine sounds great.

    Cracking job matey.

Yeh I love a bargain and to be honest I love doing a resto like this so it's a win win for me really :)

The sound on this is not muddy at all, it's clear and sharp with reasonable bass. Goes very loud too. If it had been muddy I would definitely upgrade the speakers but this sounds pretty fab to me...was expecting mediocre but got fab :)

Late to the party, bt cut me off for not paying there ransom lol

Superb work as usual si, i may have the grilles off a 767 for you but i need to be on my feet again as i fell over and broke another rib. id love another 777 gf1000 lad as i sold mine, there is a discussion on boomboxery about 777's sounding muddy and the gf1000 sounding better, well after i did the heads etc on my 777 1000, takes a couple of hours with these, i can honestly say my 777 sounded better than my 1000 but both sounded great, not in the m90 league but superb none the less.

anyway great restore si lad, most people would have scrapped her but not you, Rock on:wink:

If you have the grills that would be awesome mate! Yeh you have to heal tho...I've bust a rib before and it hurts like hell.

I was expecting mediocre sound but was really surprised at how good it sounds...yeh I think most would've scrapped it lol
