    Nice picture! :)
IMO, stylistically - simple 770, bearing in mind acoustic design - 880 (+ passive radiator).

The ones which do not belong are the three Aiwas, of course (Sanyovar dixit) :D;)

On a more serious note, in the old site I had a post discussing the similar design of the Sanyo MX-650 and the Aiwa 770U. I remember Reli suggesting that their design was not so similar after all. I disagree (also because I have consulted specialists of industrial design on this subject), but that's not the point.

Indeed, in my opinion the question concerning whether Aiwa or Sanyo first released the model is not relevant. These brands, like many others, used to collaborate with each other. They shared electronic components, for instance, and they didn't seem to have ever quarrelled -- legally -- on matters concerning design. So I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they shared some design too.

The sensible thing to do would be to find out who designed this model. I mean, the model that both Aiwa and Sanyo used in their CS/MX series. But, as we all know, the names of early boombox designers seem to have fallen into oblivion. Until somebody starts a research like the one sotza made on walkman designers.

Last but not least, @James: did you respray the grills of your 770AK? Cause those grills look brighter than mine's. On the contrary, the dark blue of your 880 looks less brilliant than mine's -- but I didn't repaint neither the 770 nor the 880.
