Important update for i931 owners!

tardpie - 2008-04-12 16:35

I made a post yesterday asking if anyone else was having humming/buzzing problems with their new Lasonic i931 boombox, and also if their i931 wouldn't charge their ipods.

Since that time, I have borrowed an old-style (first generation) 1GB ipod Nano to try out on the i931. I can report that not only does it charge correctly (which the 3rd generation Nano & ipod touch do not), but that there is also NO humming sound.

CONCLUSION: the Lasonic i931 was not built to be compatible with newer ipods. The ipod Nano third generation (small, square ones) do not charge, plus they hum. Same with the ipod touch, but the ipod touch also does not even fit inside the i931.

I do not know if the new ipod 80gb & 160gb classics have the humming/charging problems as well. Somebody please let us know.

hence why I haven't heard of this problem, I have a gen 1 nano and gen 5 video and have no issues at all.

hey there,
I have an gen 1 Ipod nano.. no issues with the i931, and a brand new 80GB Ipod classic that has no issues as well... I have read the other posts about this and tested all my ipods today....everything is fine, they charge and no noise... I got my i931 in the original release from lasonic, so I wonder if there is an issue with later releases...

I would imagine we all have "original release" i931s from Lasonic, as it was just officially released on April 1st.

It looks to me like the iPod charging function of the i931 only works while the iPod is actually playing. It seems that if you're using a different function, or if the power is off (even while its plugged in) that an iPod will not charge.

I think your right Salavatin. It only charges when the power is on. I found that out with my wife's 80Gb classic. The only "hum" I hear is when I put in a SD card. Between Songs, or right at the begining, I will hear a slight buzz/hum, then it goes away.

Mine does that too. Glad it's not a "feature" & not a fault.
I've tried it with an 80GB 5th gen video iPod, a 1st Gen nano & a 2nd Gen Nano, an SD card & a USB stick.

Sound seems best with the USB stick for some reason (using the same mp3 files)

peter.griffin - 2008-11-20 09:28

That's what I found too iso. Also, I think the limit for usb is 999 songs. I loaded up a 8gb usb with like 2500 songs, and it only sees up to 999.

i dont have a hum in anyway with mine..i use it with an 80GB classic and an SD card...but it wont charge the pod..tho mine came with a factory note inside the box stating it will not charge certain ipods models...

isolator42 - 2008-11-20 09:43

yeh, reviews online said the latest iPod range weren't 100% compatible (iPod "classics" & the 3rd gen Nano).

...I want a 80+GB iPod touch before I upgrade my 5th gen iPod...
