customised soviet boombox

brigadier.vytas - 2009-10-02 10:29

these are "before" pics of soviet Tom' 206 stero (production was started in 1980, my is made in 1986, sounds little too late for such design,i guess Big Grin ):

http://www.rw6ase.narod.ru/t/tom/tom206s.html

and here's "after" pics:

it took 2 days to turn that thing into this box. All shining details (except for "reel djs play vinyl" sticker) are made from sticky tape. Work is not finished yet, i'm working now on the names of functions, some other details.Technical condition is not very good, but the thing sounds pretty loud and has deep bass and it's veeery heavy. Any comments? p.s. small speakers are fake, made from plastic and some rubber.

another experiment with the same box. Not finnished yet. Used materials : 1,5 mm alluminium plate ; 3 mm plastic from old turntable cover; two knobs, taken from old reeel 2 reel recorder. Feeling very tired after the work with metal Frown

Does it look like a cybercow with three teeth?

I really like that first one, especially the chrome strips down the side of the box! Cool I'm interested to see what it looked like prior to modification.

thanks, R.A. but that one looks much better for me:]. Now i have a pic with brighter cassete window and that allu plate is upside-down. I think, after some more pilishing i will leave it as it is right now. But i'm not sure about "real djs" sticker zone. Should i add more alluminium? Or should i maybe change that mirror sticker to alluminum one?

brigadier.vytas - 2009-12-28 08:42

nobody cares :], but here's that box with some new added allu plates.

Gorgeous,Brigadier. I see you take pride in what you do,as this old soviet boomer has now 'Your Touch of Style'.and it look's pretty hard...A straight up costom job there.....Way to go man!

thanks, Pioneer for nice words! Now my mate- technician is repairing technical part of that box, lot's of problem there. One main oval-shaped speaker is broken and there's no new ones to buy. There's no FM waves, only soviet oldskool ultra short waves. With connected iPod it works like an old fart - only terrible noises and very weak music signal. But anyway,i hope my mate will fix everything, couse i've spend many hours with changing its design. Especially with those alluminium plates.
