been given a Sony micro system buy a customer from gardening - all works but the CD part comes up with NO DISC ? cleaned the lens and tried a couple of different cd's

so is it dead or can i try some thing else with out going to deep/long on it ???

Hi Bendycat. It sounds like the optical pickup is shot (the laser). Unless it is a hard to find vintage unit, I wouldn't put too much money into it. Optical pickups are not cheap. Some can cost upwards of $100 or more just for the part, and then you figure in the labor yet.
