Sharp GF 6262

digablekid - 2009-11-25 23:30

Hey all,

I've had my Sharp GF 6262 for a while now and have been trying to fix the cassette deck for just as long. I can play one of those cassettes with a line in since it doesnt require the tape to spin but it just doesn't work when I play anything else. Also, I have to trick the play button from popping up by playing it with the pause button on. The FF and Rewind work well but play just doesn't. Do any of you guys have a clues as to what I can do to fix it?

Thanks for your time fellas.

All the best,

Dig

have you tried replacing the belts?

If the 6262 is the earlier Sharp deck design (as opposed to the 8989 style) it's probably the drive tyre on the capstan spindle that has worn away or gone to a gooey mess. 'Common as muck' fault on Sharps, and several threads on here detailing the problem I believe.

That's exactly what I think the problem is. When I opened it up, the belts and all of the lever action seemed fine but that one wheel was crapped out.

I guess I gotta do some forum searching and posting for parts for parts.

Thanks for confirming 2steppa!

The wheel is generally ok as in the wheel that is driven by the capstan, that tyre is generally fairly robust, it's the drive from the capstan shaft tyre that is deficient. It's kinda hard to see but there's a little 'window' in which you should be able to see it spinning.
Basically, in a nutshell you need to extract the capstan and replace the perished rubber with piece of modelmaker hobby silicon rubber fuel pipe, that's what I and others have used. My Sharp 9696 is as strong as an ox now Cool

you can also use the pvc outer sheath of electrical cable....i used 4mm cable.....strip out the copper core and use the pvc sheath to slide over the capstan spindle....it worked great for my sharp gf 555......by the way, you will never ever find the original part to replace it.....they are long gone

Thanks for the info all!

Word! Davebush, can you elaborate on your workaround a bit? Do you mean to clean the tyre of it's gunk, cleanly strip electrical wire of its wirey guts and run the sheath over where the part old rubber used to be? Effin'a... I think that will work!

Good lookin' out!

DK....if its the same setup as my gf555 here is what you do .... you gotta clean all that black oily stuff from the wheels and tyres and the spindle roller....i use cotton buds on sticks.....you know the ones you clean your ears with....i used that and tape head cleaning liquid........then you got to pull out the spindle .(not all the way) then push the cable sheath over.....you need to pull it all the way out in the first place to find out which size of cable is the best fit over the shaft.....if you live in the UK...pop into your local electrical supplies shop and ask them for some small offcuts of cable I.E. 1mm, 1.5mm. 2.5mm.4mm 6mm....and im talking the type of cable you find in your house...lighting and plug sockets.....this is the PVC type......the 4mm stuff worked for me....good luck
