M-90 Question

daniel.ruiz - 2010-02-10 08:08

This is about FM stereo reception. When I adjust to a station it sounds great, and the stereo light is on. Then if I turn the power off, or switch functions, and go back to radio, or turn the power back on its no longer playing in stereo and the light is off. I have to turn the tuning knob, or toggle the Stereo/Mono switch to get back in stereo. These are strong radio stations here in my city. Even when the light is off I still have good reception only it sounds in mono, and not stereo. Anyone?
Thanks

the VCO oscillator pot probably needs a cleaning or recalibration to the proper frequency. Its right on the tuner board. You need the correct tools to do it right, but most can tweak it by a tiny bit either way to get it back in.

I'm pretty good with my hands, but don't know much about fixing stereos. If you can give me a little more details i can probably fix it. Details like, what kind of tools, where exactly is the VCO, and what it looks like, Etc.
Thanks.

I Agree

This happened to my M90 too.
There's a variable resistor on the tuner board which if adjusted slightly, will fix this problem, so if you're given good direction, it'll be do-able.
I'll now give-way to someone else who hopefully knows more specifics than me... Smile

AHA!

found the old post:

so, you're looking for VR1 on the tuner board.
Let me know if you need a service manual...

Here you go.

Frequency counter method is much better, especially for weak stations. But the simple method should get you close enough to make you happy.
