Lasonic i931 US to UK plug conversion?

jhamez84 - 2010-04-13 15:09

Hello people,

Apologies if this has an obvious answer....

I've just bought a Lasonic i931 (white-on-white if you're interested!), and imported it from the United States into the United Kingdom. I've just realised that the main plug is in a US style (two pins), and so will not fit a UK plug socket. Frown

What do I need to do to get power from the mains? Do I just need a cheap, simple adapter (£2 ones off eBay?), or do I need some kind of voltage transformer to avoid ruining my baby?

Hope someone can help. Apologies if this is a silly question - I hadn't anticipated the plug issue! Eek

How Doo..first thing you should do is look on the sticker on the back of it,check it can accept 240v,if it does, second thing to do is check that it has a voltage selector on the back, make sure it is set to 240v,once you done that you can just cut the plug off and fit a uk standard mains plug..

Thank you! This makes more sense, but I'm still conscious that I might blow the unit up!

I didn't find any sticker, but I have a photo of some electric notice (at http://www.flickr.com/photos/j...3995/in/photostream/) and one of the plug (at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jza84/4518695919/). I think I've managed to capture some of the detail.

Is it possible to make a definitive suggestion from this info? Confused

Yeah i can see..it cant run off uk voltage, its only 110v..best advice i can give you is Buy one of these...step down transformer..

Dont try and plug that in,it will definately blow it up..buy one of those and you'll be ok..

EDIT..Just looked at your pic again, the link i put up,the transformer can only handle upto 45W,on the back of your lasonic it says 68w,but thats 68w max,it will still work but i recommend you get a stronger one..

Heres one..This will work better..

Thanks - I suspected it was going to need a transformer like this. Just a final quickie - is that particular step-down transformer pitched at the correct voltage/wattage/amps/whatever? Or were you just linking that as an example?

As you can probably tell a) I didn't pay attention in Science at school, and b) it's cost me too much to get this Lasonic for me to get the power wrong!

wait houston,we have another problem, that link to the 100w one i just put up,your lasonic needs to have a figure 8 socket on it,the lasonic does'nt have that, the mains on the lasonic is built in,you need one in the style of the first link i put up..if your lasonic would have had a stansard boombox figure8 type socket,it would have been fine..

Thanks. I'm thinking the following would be the right choice then?:

I suppose I could just use batteries and avoid all this - but they cost a fortune, and I'd be happier with mains power!

yeah that would be ideal..get that man..it will sort your problems out..there is a few members on here that owns a stepdown transformer, alot of peeps have imported boxes from china, japan, usa and some of those boxes are 100v-110v only..you'll be ok with that 100w one..enjoy the new lasonic man..
oh and i see you like the GF575 ? good choice..i like mine..

jhamez84 - 2010-04-14 08:05

Thanks! The GF-575 is a superior machine really, and even looks better. Mine however has a speaker out - must get that fixed sometime...

Thanks again for the help
