VEF 221 Secial Blend

brigadier.vytas - 2010-08-04 03:18

In this crazie project i used guts from Belorus M 310 C box (year of production 1991, made in Belorus, off course):

and body of this latvian VEF 221 radio:

Here's the result:

Cassette mechanism is removed from Belorus. For better look i've added microcassette with fake door, some knobs, broken digital VU meter from old cassette deck and some other details, like RIGA (capital of Latvia) logo and Riga's coat of arms (taken from other old radio).

Alluminium touch and black sticker is added:

New sockets for iPod (also u can see word "coWer" on the back:] ):

"Special Blend" sticker and 3 flags (it is made now in Latvia, Belorus (an old flag, used before Lukashenko's regime) and "finished" in Lithuania:]) :

Latest pic - ampermeter is added, but not connected yet :

Ok, there's no radio, no real cassette, but it works fine with iPod. Becouse of good Belorus's construction this unit sounds pretty good. Also, there's (on the top) working vol, balance, bass and trebble functions. Belorus used 6 "C" batterries, but VEF - 6 "D". Becouse of same voltage my hybrid works now with "D's".
Why i'm doin' it? Becouse i like, not becouse i can't buy real boomboxes:].

Love it! The trim along the top is my favorite. You should be an industrial designer!

excellent vision to create that from the two different boomboxes. You must have access to lots of toolsSmile
