HITACHI 8600!!!

lav.loo - 2010-12-10 07:02

ok guys, just dug my 8600 out for it's routine check up Big Grin powered it up everything working great radio and tape, there as always been some distortion noise when turning volume past the quarter mark on tape, but that's never really bothered me.
anyway i have it stored away with a blank retro reel tape inside ready for display when i find somewhere to settle properly, i thought id'e give record a go from radio to tape, i pressed record and the light for record and play light both lit up, anyhow it started recording and then just stopped dead Confused even more confusing is the fact that the lights for play and record are stuck on all the time, it will only eject so far and when it is half ejected, the tape counter is running wtf i am really baffled by this one, there is a slight humming noise when i select tape position, it's fine on tuner but i don;t want to use it incase something burns out Frown seems my last few boxes are dying on me Nod Yes first my 5250 and now the 8600, as anyone else had similar probs with an 8600?? Wink

dingdangdoo!
A 8600 in perfect nick again, always a pleasure to help out if I can, this is what being a boombox brother is all about Big Grin

Big Grin Wink

Anyone worked on one of these. Oh my god, the worst.

docs - 2010-12-12 04:46

I dunno Litfan it is a pretty easy box to work on for doing basic stuff in my opinion. The deck is easy to get at and easy to remove and replace belts. I guess like any box, if you need to some work on teh PCB's they're a pain to remove.

litfan - 2010-12-12 04:51

You must have a knack docs. It`s getting it back together, that foxes me.

docs - 2010-12-12 05:56

Yeh the knack with this one is to lay it on its back and hold the top section with the cassette deck open. Lay the top down on to the back and the deck door lays into position perfectly.

retro.addict - 2010-12-12 13:41

This box is quite hard to get back together. The hardest part is plugging in the VU meter just before you close it.

docs - 2010-12-12 14:45

There is a small connector for the lights onthe front of the deck but I never had to undo anything for the VU's. Seems I must have the knack Smile

litfan - 2010-12-17 09:07

Yeah, that`s it. Plugging the vu`s in. It`s all coming back now. Thanks.
