Telefunken Hifi Studio 1m vu-meters

nevone - 2010-12-16 11:29

Hello,
Are the vu-meters of the telefunken supposed to work with his radio? Just got one, tape not functioning (probably needs belts)so i could play only radio on it for the moment.
Are they supposed to work or they work just on tape? Also, one of the ligts on the vu-meters does not work. Could this be related?

Did anyone came across a repair manual for this by any chance?

Thank you very much Philip! I-m studying it right now.

No, they only work with the tape player.

That-s a good info. I was beginning to worry that they are defective.

Just curious. Did anyone listened to both Telefunken HIfi studio 1 and Marantz PMS 7000 (it-s the next one on my wanted list). How does those two compare?

According to everything I've read, the Tele blows it away. Even with a tweeter busted and a soft right channel, my Tele sounds 10 times better than any of my other boxes.

I've had a a Marantz PMS-7000 and a CRS-8000 and I can tell you that the Telefunken studio blows it away.

Very nice.
@Reli: you could recoil that tweeter (i hope that it-s the right word). Unfortunately, nearly no one recoils speakers these days. I know only 2 guys here that do that, and one is 300 km away.

Recoil? What does that mean?

Physically it is OK, the tweeter is not torn......but it produces no sound. And the woofer produces too MUCH sound (compared to the woofer on the other side). If I had to guess, I'd say there might be a problem with the crossover resistors or whatever they're called? If so, seems like it should be a common repair. I will take it to a speaker guy.

From your description it may be a crossover problem.
Here-s the speaker schematic:
Any of these condensers or resistors could be worn out:

I still do not know how this translates in english, but by recoiling i meant replacing the speaker coil wire with a new one. Not many do it these days.

P.S. Beware that resistors either work or not, but condensors could work at half capacity or even less.

Ah I see, thanks, that makes sense!
