Anyone here have reconing skills?

kittmaster - 2008-03-23 17:52

Went into the GF full tilt tonight to find all sound issues.

Both left and right inductors are completely open, should be measure out 3.2 ohms, getting Meg ohms.....> hence open. So I'll need to have the inductors replaced.

Left subwoofer is farting when it plays, must be a motor issue within the gimble of the cone housing.

Right woofer has a slight fart......so all in all.....I need to have all four speakers "repaired".

I'm sure no one here will have replacements right?

So does anyone have the skillz to properly refurbish these?? Or have a source to refurbish them properly?

I'm so upset....but its only a bbx.....LOL

Any advise or direction.....?

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 04:25

the ability to repair and shim the motor of a speaker and repair the outer surrounds of the driver without risk of damaging it further....

I found a place that does it.....usd audio and another, the trick is, can they do it in white and also do they have 3.2 ohm coils!

I'll give them a jingle today.....Smile

DM4U, thanks, I discovered them last night......wonder how bad the damage will be.....X4.....yuck

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 14:34

I called usd audio, they can't do do them in white.....damn.....any other ideas??

Edited: can > can't

jimski - 2008-03-24 15:05

they can or they cant

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 15:12

sorry........can't.....I've called a few return hits from google....nothing promising yet.

appleknocker - 2008-03-24 15:19

Just an uneducated rookie shot in the dark here, but do you think you could use the white cones from gf-8585/8686 and swap them on to the gf-1000 speakers during the recone process then use the original chrome caps from your gf-1000 speakers.

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 15:43

anything is possible......if they are 6 inch drivers.....

THey have to be 3.2 ohms.....do you have any tha you could take a picture of?

appleknocker - 2008-03-24 16:42

here is a pic. I have 4 spares I can give you if you think it might work - I am pretty sure they are 6 inchers. I don't know about the ohms - how do I check that?

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 17:18

oh snap....what is the measuremen end to end? Is there a part number on the back?

I'll remove one of mine and lets see if they line up!

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 17:22

also does it have an ohm rating on it?

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 17:30

all four are the same size......here are the dimensions of mine:

appleknocker - 2008-03-24 17:34

From edge to edge of the white speaker part; it is 5 5/8 (maybe 1/16 wider)- from outside edge to edge of the metal surround it is 6 1/4 The part number is 16PB274P . It also says 16 cm 4(omega sign? - like upside down horse shoe)on the back of the speaker

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 17:41

so they are 4 ohms.....not that big a deal....

How close would you say they are against my images?

appleknocker - 2008-03-24 17:43

I just saw your pics. It looks exact to me. From edge to edge on the metal part is 6 1/4 just like your pics and on the metal part where the holes are is 6 3/4 just matching also. And the holes look like those also but are more of a circular shape and not so oval, but they seem drilled in the same location.

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 17:47

Big Grin

Sweet!

How much you want for them?

I lost .8 ohms and a bit of power output.....but overall......it will be unnoticeable and will retain the original look. I'll have the four others serviced in the mean time.......that could take months.......LMK!

I also need that little knob too!......thanks man.....savin the day...... Big Grin

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 17:47

Just a silly question.....do they all work normally?.......lol....where did they come froM?

appleknocker - 2008-03-24 17:51

No charge for them, I will ship them to you tomorrow along with the selector knob. The goofballs from the toshiba chip also sent those chips to me instead of to you - so I will send everything in one package.

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 17:54

dude you fin rock!.......thank you!

just a shipping suggestion.....bolt two speakers together face to face then what wrapping is needed, I just read that on the search for speaker reconing.....it will protect them well from the consensus on the net....

I will pay the shipping, give me your paypal address......this is not a request.

Thanks again...Smile

redbenjoe - 2008-03-24 17:58

wow -- that was the most amazing exchange of posts --
you 2 guys should now be in the s2g hall of fame-
--- nice going

appleknocker - 2008-03-24 17:58

I think they all work, but I am not sure. One set came from an 8686 - I got it for parts - It would power up but only play from one channel - but I don't think the speaker was the reason it was only playing from one side. The other set I got from an 8585 I had bought for parts. It powered and played sound too - but was busted up really bad and not worth saving. My gut feeling from looking at them is that they are still good.

appleknocker - 2008-03-24 18:06

Chris, you brought my disco lite back from the dead and my messed up rt-s931 is in your hands too Smile. Let me pay the shipping here. I haven't forgotten how much you have done for my collection and I am just hoping to return a small favor to help get your gf-1000 back in business.

transamguy1977 - 2008-03-24 18:34

Nice!!! Smile

kittmaster - 2008-03-24 18:37
