Changing Belts On Sharp GF-8989II

ghettoboom777 - 2008-02-12 13:24

Hi-I have a sharp GF-8989II and the play works fine but the FF & Rewnind are super slow or don't work much.
I'm sure that this ia a belt issue but I was wondering how hard is it to replace these??
Also where can I get these??
I'd appreciate any help or advice on this.
I love these stereos-Ghettoboom777. Confused

If the GF-8989 uses the same type of tape transport as the GF-777, it's probably more an issue of cleaning the idler wheels that turn the contact the flywheel. Getting to them shouldn't be that much of a problem if you're patient.

If you're in the U.S. and know the belt sizes, I would suggest either:

http://studiosoundelectronics.com/belts.htm

or

http://www.ued.net

for belt purchases.

Hi FatDog-Thanks!! I'm going to dig into in the 8989 next couple of weeks.
I'm restoring a 777 first.

I live in Tn. also during the winter.
Got enough rain yet?? Smile
Thanks again-Ghettoboom777. Smile

Can I just jump on this thread and ask what the differences are between the 'normal' GF-8989 and the second version of it? Smile

Hi retro Addict-The difference in the GF-8989 & the GF-8989II is that the GF-8989II had phono inputs on the back & the normal 8989 did not have the phono inputs on the back.
Also the GF-8787 is only a 2 band where the 8989's are a 4 band.
I think I'm correct on this.
Have a great week-GhettoBoom777.
