Sony CFD-ZW150-Trouble Reading C.D.'s

ghettoboom777 - 2008-11-07 16:22

Hi everyone-This Sony just rocks!
The only bummer is that the C.D. is having trouble reading C.D.'s.
It will play some but alot it won't.
You can hear it trying to read(funny sounds like when you start it up but it doesn't stop doing that, also like a short sound going on when it try to start spinning and reading when you first try to start it.
Sometimes when you spin the c.d. alittle and then close the cover it sometimes starts up better.
Is there anyhting inside I could look at?
Also is there a part that may be out so I can replace it?
I fixed that broken toggle for the e.q. but I didn't really look at the c.d. part because I wanted to test it out first.
I love the sound from this unit-very nice and powerfull.
Everything else works fine.
Any suggestions let me know.
Thanks-Ghettoboom777. Confused

If it's possible try playing a CD with the entire unit upsidedown. This is a good test to see if the laser tracking dealy is worn out. With gravity on it's side it might be close enough to read the cd properly.

If this works consistently in an upside down position it means the track needs to be dealt with or replaced. Theres a good chance it is this as it's usually the first thing to go in a CD reader mech. It could just mean a bit of an adjustment to re-align it too.

And if it still has issues reading at least you can strike that off the list of possibilities.

Good Luck Ghettoboom777!

Rock On.

You could also try cleaning the lens. I have seen some that are so dirty and dusty particularly if any one smokes in the house. Take a cue tip and soak it in isopropyl alcohol and gently rub it over the lens, then dry with a dry cue tip just be gentle as the lens is delicate.

Hi-I have done this but it still reads poorly.
Like I said it will play on some c.d.'s.
I'm going to try that again but I think the laser might be out of alignment or it's just maybe worn out.It makes lots of "reading type" noises. It's funny this is the only c.d.player I have that doesn't work perfect.
I'm determined to fix it.This Sony cleaned up like a new penny and I want the c.d. to work.
Thanks for your advice-I'll try drying it off right away like that-I'm not sure I dried it off completely last time.
Have a great weekend-Ghettobooom777. Smile
