Tweeter upgrade for GF-777?

retro.addict - 2008-02-04 07:32

Hi everyone,

as I'm extremely disappointed with the sound from my GF-777 lacking highs, I think it would benefit from a better set of tweeters (or more I would benefit from them!). Big Grin The normal full-range outer speakers sound fine, but the tweeters are so quiet it seems pointless them being there at all. They look crap (with flat cardboard-like dustcaps), and to be fair, they are crap. I have some tweeters in my junky GF-525 (a stupidly heavy 'box which I really can't be bothered doing up). It's tweeters are very loud and sound amazing, so clear that they're piercing. I'd really like to try fitting these to my GF-777. Has anyone upgraded tweeters on a GF-777? Is it a good idea for me to try doing so?

Thanks Smile,

R.A.

its a great idea Ra in my opinion all of the speakers should be changed on a 777 it has a rather dissapointing sound in my opinion of course.

In my opinion most boxes the speakers should be up graded just take my m90 i thought it had a good sound till i upgraded the speakers, once i upgreaded the m90 unleashes its true potential.

The only box i am happy about not upgreading is the gf 1000 it sounds good enough plus the white speakers do it for me and it would be hard finding better speakers that are the same colour, of course if i found some i would probbly upgreade that too.

Now in my opinion, the other speakers sound fine. The Super Woofers pump out some very good bass, plus the outer speakers sound good to me. I think a drastic increase in highs is all mine needs. Smile

haha i have a few yes take those pioneers in my av. I think of it this way take the m90 if yr gunna pay big bucks for one i want the best performance out of it i dont want to spend say 500 on a box and end up with a box that sounds crap, altho the m90 does sound pretty good as is no offence much better than 777 for example,

All theese speakers are 20 yrs old plus and technology has improved alot on speakers,

dont get me rong the m90 does sound great with the origionals but much better when modded

Ofcourse if people view there boxes as an asset (wich i dont) then its not recommended

Take that modded 777 that was posted a few weeks back it was awsome but then sold with origional speakers back in, what a shame i would have loved that box i just diddnt have the cash at the time.

I got a GF 777 that is going to need new speakers. What does one recomend? I seen the radio posted with the Rockford Fosgate t162c's. Looked pretty bad ass. But before i go buying speakers i wanna make sure they are going to fit in that 777's box. So what ya think about brand new speakers?

me personally i cant recommend any speakers for the 777 as i havnt found any myself yet the fosgate is a good bet im sure

Take my m90 i went through 10 pairs of speakers till if found some that sounded good and actually fit mind you the 90 is awkward cuz you are dealing with limited space cauzed buy the electronics inside.

The 777 should me much easier to reafit (much more space) when modding you are always the best judge as to what speakers should go in because at the end of the day it has to please you and you alone, instead of buying speakers for my 777 well actually 767 i bought a gf1000 again much better sounding but the 777's performance is soley down to the poor speakers

Autobot modded his 777 and reconed it sounded 10 x better of wich im sure that whas the case.

Good luck on your quest peter im sure there can be plenty advice given in this area.

There is a thread somewhere from last year about changing the woofers and the tweeters--I bought the speakers that were recommended, but have not put them in yet!
