GF-777 Speaker colour?

retro.addict - 2008-02-05 09:09

Are they supposed to be the grey colour mine are, or black? If they're meant to be black, how can I colour them safely? Will a black permanent marker pen do it?

both of mine are gray with black around the outside,(dont know correct name for black outer part), mine are unmodified and every thing is original

i think they are supposed to be black. it sounds like yours have faded over time. no idea on how to color them. would black spray paint possibly work? then you would have to remove them from the box of course. just a thought Smile

use fast drying gloss black spray paint. it wont hurt a thing.

Do not use spray paint - especially gloss. What you want is Dupli-color Fabric Dye. The dye will actually penetrate the fibers of the speakers and give long lasting color. Spray paint just applies a coating to the speaker and could alter the sound.

Not only that but will make the cone material brittle if it's just paper. Water soluble acrylics work well also as they penetrate fibers well. I used it on my RX-C100 speakers and now they're "Crest" white. Big Grin

Note: The thickness of the cone material will affect how well dyes/paints are recieved. You must aslo be careful since a thinner cone material will be riskier regarding possible damage. Smile

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and wanted to see if anyone had any service manuals for the GF-777. I need to replace the woofers.

Thanks,

Joe

I'd be keen to see a pic of a 777 with black speakers, all the ones I've seen have been grey, so I guess they are all faded??

I reckon so. I bet my GF-777's been sat facing the sun at least once during it's 26 year existence. Smile
