Hello all

I have a problem with my Sharp GF 8989. Which I recently received.  Anyway I give it a good clean and it been working great for the past few days. But now the main belt drive motor on the tape deck is making an awful noise. Any advice would be greatly received. I think it may need a new one anyone else have experienced this. Its not catching anything I have checked, had the tape unit out and tried it still making the noise.

IS IT DEFO THE MOTOR MAKING THE NOISE

Yes its the motor but I think I have sorted it with a new tighter belt. Cannot understand why a belt would make the motor make such a noise. So fingers crossed.

Have a good day

In almost all cases where I have heard a sound after rebelting, it was due to a wire or something rubbing against the rotating transport assembly.

If the motor itself is making noise, then the bearings are usually shot.  A drop or two of machine oil at the shaft generally quiets it but it's not really a fix since the repair does not last.  I have not known using a tighter belt to be helpful though.  If anything, more often than not, premature worn bearings can be attributed to belts that are too tight.
