VZ-2000 No Sound?

scottym - 2011-10-31 22:39

I have two of these machines and both of them:

- Have tape decks that function

- Radio/tape emits no sound

- Power on when plugged in

- Have turntables that are non-operational

If you turn the volume knob you can hear a little static but that's it.

Both of these have been sitting in storage the last 15+ years

Any help/ideas for the no sound issue would be very much appreciated.  I'm a newb to the tech side of boomboxes and just electrical in general.

Thanks,

Scott

scotty,he may be right, its a common issue with boxes, dirty internal record switch can cause allsorts of problems, also try spraying the selector switches (tape/radio/phono/aux) with contact spray, but the box may need taking apart to do that (not reccomended if you have'nt done one before) also i'm sure there is a internal/external speaker selector on the back, try switching that aswell..but if the boxes have been stored for that length of time, they will definately need to be taken apart and cleaned and serviced..

oh and scotty,i love the MR990 in your avatar,is that yours ?

You want the ( mr ) - what is that ?

James, the MR990 is just the japanese domestic model of the Sharp GF990,not much difference apart from japanese text instead of english, and the keyboard face on the MR is black instead of white like on the GF,i have the GF990 but i would trade for the MR in an instant !
