Tips for cleaning polishing chrome and plexi-glass

chris69 - 2012-03-19 12:46

Hey guys

I'm sure most of you already have certain methods and products for cleaning and polishing your boomboxes but i thought i would share mine anyway.

For the most part i usually use Fantastik with soft cloth or soft bristle brush if the chrome is really grimy but as some of you i'm sure have experienced, chrome can also have that greenish stuff similar to what you find on a battery post or certain type of metal including chrome. For that i use NevrDull and that can be found in most automotive stores and some hardware stores. It removes almost anything but just be carefull not to rub so hard that you actually remove a layer of the chrome. Test it out for yourselfs on a piece of chrome plated plastic that is not valuable and i think you will like the results

For the plexi-glass tuner lenses i use a product called Novus Plastic Scratch Clean and Remover 1 - 2 - 3 although i don't use the #3 very much because i find the #2 works better.

This stuff won't remove heavy deep scratches but it does remove small scratches and scuff plus the plexi-glass looks beautiful afterwards.

i have just done the tuner window and cassette door on my 9595 come up good

Does it remove scratches or just shine the plexi-glass? This Novus #2 really does remove small or light scratches pretty good and the #1 really shines it like new.
I had originally bought it off ebay to do the headlights on my car and tried it shortly after on some of my radios. Very satisfied with it but i'll give that product you are using a try someday.

That's the same stuff people use on motorcycle and snowmobile helmet visors right?

yes chris same stuff good for clear plastic in general .

chris69 - 2012-03-19 13:44

Great i'll give it a try for sure sometime!

For removing adhesive such as old tape residue, without damaging the plastic i use a product called
Ez-Ze Spot Remover and sometimes Goo-Gone but i find Ez-Ze spot remover works best.
Whatever you do guys... do not use Goof-Off because it can and in most cases will actually melt plastic. I learned that lesson the hard way years ago

My pleasure I found it surfing on ebay because i couldn't find it locally here in Canada either but i think some of the sellers ship worldwide .

Yes here we go,this guy ships worldwide but his are only the small  2 oz size bottles but i'm sure some of them also ship the larger sized ones like i bought.

Give it a try and i really think you will be impressed with both the #1 and #2

Chris, I know I'm resurecting from the dead....but did you use the nevrdull (lightly of course) for chrome plated plastic with good results.  I'm about to do this, but tryong to get some opinions / recommendations.

nevone - 2015-04-04 15:07

I used Autosol chrome plastic with some good results.
