Ice ice baby

Just been sent one of these puppies!...for free!!

http://www.icepower....ker/ASX2_SERIES

Its an ICEpower 50ASX2 amplifier which is produced by a Bang and Olufsen spin off company so presumably should pretty much rock!

Its really small and is pretty much plug and play, pumping out 50w per channel.

I got it because I wanted to mod my Philips D8444 that I'd already fitted with disco lights  (see index.php?board_oid=193392314111653483&content_oid=308945795790558889) so the sound would match the looks

Anyone used one before?

Anyone have any other ideas of what to use it for?

Nice project! Gonna follow this! Wanted to do the same with my outdoor D8444... Do you already know what speakers to use? Think the originals will vaporize when they are fed with 50 watts of boom

Ha ha, you're not wrong there!...the originals are crap, never seen such lightweight speakers...they would most definitely self destruct!

I've got a couple of wharfedales that might do it but I've not checked ohms or anything yet but I do know they fit perfectly.  However, as I've not paid for the amp I might stump up for some decent speakers if I can find some cheap enough.

Was thinking of trying the keep the original electronics, add the amp, and have some way of switching between the two...that way its kinda original but better.

But am now erring towards just removing the original workings to fit bigger and better speakers. Then connecting the amp up to the original line in socket that, as we know, doesn't really work on the original...radio function is then via the good old iphone.

Trouble is that the amp is two way but the D8444 has a bass speaker too...not sure whether that there's a way around that?

Can it be crammed into a little antique radio?

It sure would! I've actually got a lovely bakelite Bush DAC90A which would be awesome if it had one modern big speaker in it
