Sanyo M-x920

I just pick up a Sanyo M-x920 . The volume is soft. Both speakers are working. Seems like is sound like 1/4 when you turn the volume knob, but the volume is turn up all the way. Any ideas what it could be ? Aloha Eric

Sounds like the switches just need cleaning...thats the usual cause of volume levels freaking out.  Have you used switch cleaner before?

Nice box by the way, just got a minty fully working one myself

Not really. How do you clean the knob ? Just pull knob out ?

Oh dear, going a bit Benny Hill here lol

You need a can of servisol or deoxit. Open the box and spray some into all the switches and pots...the volume, bass etc and work each one 30+ times then leave to dry. It clears all the corrosion from the contacts and usually sorts many sound issues. Do the record bar and the headphone socket too. The record bar is a long metal channel behind the deck with a bit that slides back and forth by a few mm's

haha! sorry 8081984 couldn't resist

I'm sure if you follow northerner's more sensible advice you'll be fine!

You most likely need to pull entire frame out to get to pots though. It's not to difficult and only like three wired plugs need to be unplugged to get out. Plus there are screws also at both top and bottom of box and one screw under volume knob

northerner - 2013-07-30 12:35

Hey bill have you got pics of which cables to pull as I couldn't work it out the other day?

baddboybill - 2013-07-30 13:20

Here is pic. There are 3 sets to unplug. 2 are ribbon. Make sure of direction for ribbon. Hold with finger the plug then push in ribbon and pull out gently. It's a bit hard to pull but will come out.

northerner - 2013-07-30 13:38

Ah I see now. The black ribbons didn't seem to be attached to a plug so I figured it can't be them! So does the ribbon come away from the plug ie with exposed wires?

baddboybill - 2013-07-30 14:00

Yes all ribbons come off with wires exposed Make sure to hold the plug end so solder joints don't crack.

That's great Bill, thanks mate

Thanks guys. I think repairing myself is to much for me. If anybody interested in buying it. I rather go to a good home. Antenna not broken. Looks clean. Exterior knobs need polishing. Problem is volume is soft.

baddboybill - 2013-07-30 20:11

Where you from and how much?

8081984 - 2013-07-30 23:12

I located in Hawaii .Lol.  Probably have to parcel post usps. Takes 3- 4 weeks. I saw on ebay go much as $350, but since my boombox have a problem with volume soft and need a tune up. Maybe $160 plus shipping.
