National RS4360DFT LED MOD and cleanup

maxx134 - 2013-08-10 00:23

I had promised myself to not get carried away this time especially on this rare military looking box, but look how it was meant to be.. soft glow(!)

What you think..

just the dial left while I "de-oxit Gold" the controls..

maxx134 - 2013-08-10 00:27

My camera not showing that LED in mic is actually hidden under element, giving a glow effect..

andyboombox - 2013-08-10 01:41

well at least you stopped at the meters and mics this time brohowever as this is a massively rare unit i wouldnt have even touched it,but its subtle what youve acchieved so fair playim just not a huge fan of led'ing up a box thats all and think if its an important one like this one that it should remain stock thats all-sorry

maxx134 - 2013-08-10 09:48

Haha don't be sorry!

It will have the best quality install...

No cheapo radio shack Leds!

Most Leds  I install will replace existing bulbs at same location and are LATEST technology bulbs that cost more..

maxx134 - 2013-08-10 09:56

Also I am installing the "AnalogAlley" controller so lights will have independent circuit (!)

vintage.man - 2013-08-10 14:05

well i like it.. always liked the modern touch too a box.. where do you get your stips... want too do my rx 7000

maxx134 - 2013-08-10 17:59

Box is almost done the foam holding the meters crumbled and had to be replaced.
I took pics and will post soon.
Gotta say my soft glow lit approach exudes a quality I hope to get better pics soon.
I am not using any strips.

I am using newest Leds on market plus an "Analog Alley" LED controler so install is very professional,
plus original bulbs are untouched(!) and remain connected in unit without lighting!
As my approach is in making the yellow trigger "see" right thru them to ground.
So all original parts remain for reverting.

This unit is so sweet now as the "deoxit Gold" spray made the controls so smooth.
I hardly ever used this box because of the loud dust in volume.

the rx7000 is my fav box for sound although the others have memories.

in boomboxery they have nice threads on it for clean & mod

vintage.man - 2013-08-10 18:48

I got my RX 5700 opened up. Doing a deoxit treatment with the deoxit D5... This model had no light at all. But there is a small hole in the VU meter where light should go! And the tuner area has a great spot for a led too.. Dam I wish I knew how to do that.

maxx134 - 2013-08-10 22:32

a box like that is just begging for it lol

maxx134 - 2013-08-10 22:40

update my box is clean and complete

I am extremely satisfied just how  natural it looks using original locations and positioning of the leds.

You would not even think it is a LED mod as the color is so diffused and natural.

not overly bright, or beaming or directional, as most LEDs  have a bad reputation of doing.

It is just a smooth glow.

It is how this unit should have come.

Will take pics soon had to take a break lol

vintage.man - 2013-08-10 23:05

Me too.. Put the 5700 back together. And clean up the table and watched some tube. Got the volume scratch free. And hit all the other pods.. Want too put a led strip in tuner and VUs area. Going too have too get the CLP too show the how too when I go see him too pick up the might M90...

maxx134 - 2013-08-11 18:47

I posted some initial pics of the box on ebay and will post more here soon.

Need to make a video..

Just like to say that I will not revert this box it can be turned off and next box I w391699C5-orig.jpgher sanyo m9990, then the Toshiba wx1.

I will make them look as I feel they should have looked from begining.
That is why I mod every box, to what I envision they could be..
From what I consider a box of childhood memories, to a box that can bring new memories.
When these boxs were around in 70s, I was just a kid looking thru the store glass, and what I saw, was simply wondrously beautiful..
But those stores cheated as they shined light on them to make them sparkle..And that is what I want them to look now. Wonderful and full of light, from within.
So I disagree views of some "purists" who say I would lower the collectore value.
In fact all my past boxes were all enjoyed by their buyers.
I respect collector value yet there are enough pure plain boxes in the world.

By simply posting you are inviting input, critique and ideas. Receiving both positive and negative posts can be something useful. It's how others see your work which in the end (if Ebay is it's destination) will give you a snapshot of how it'll be perceived.

Use it accordingly and it can be incredibly valuable, for current and future mods.

BTW I love the mod. Tasteful. The colours couldn't be better. The green LED's really throw a retro feel to it. You hit the nail on the head Maxx!

maxx134 - 2013-08-23 13:45

Finally recorded a video using the Galaxy S4 as the camera is higher megapixel but seems the same software as the LED still appears blue when actually its white
Should be able to post by tonight

vintage.man - 2013-08-23 15:08
