Sanyo C-9 seeking some mod advice

aiwa.tom - 2013-08-21 04:45

Hi all,

I've just bought a Sanyo C-9, advertised as not working due to power issues, that I  am picking up this weekend. I am intending to mod it by replacing the main drivers as Oldschool69 did here http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic...3#193392314112220603

I am hoping for some ideas as to which drivers to use - there are heaps of choices on Ebay and I'm looking for some suggestions. I don't want to go too overboard price wise.

They are KLH's. 6" Solid Polypropelene between 1/32 and 1/16 thick cones. Rated 6 to 8 ohms. Got them from a set of bookshelf speakers I found at a thrifty. When you first see them they look like pure plastic but are much more pliable than solid plastic would be. Super nice speakers.

thanks heaps, but I'm really after some some suggestions for something I could buy or locate readily - I don't wish to just take a punt based on a brand or price range. Even a model number of the KLH's wouldbe a good start.

Also, I'm keen for a more detailed explanation of how the vent was done in the back? There's not much data.

The vent dimensions can be calculated by simply entering the internal box volume and woofer parameters in an online loudspeaker box calculator. As for finding the appropriate woofer for the mod, you should match the tweeter's sensitivity rating and impedance. Also the cut off frequencies between the woofer and tweeter should be seamless. I would look for a matching set with a crossover at Parts Express.

The cheapest solution would be a full range woofer, use the tweeter cutout as ports, and just calculate the port dimensions.

Thanks Retro, I just got the unit today it looks good but as I was advised it doesn't power up so I'm hoping its just a blown fuse but I'm taking it to a repair shop tomorrow. I'm still looking for advice on a woofer to put into it as mentioned I don't really know what my options are and would like some suggestions.
