replacemenet aerials for sharp 9191

sonburn - 2013-09-15 12:45

just scored a pretty nice lookin' 9191 but it is going to need new aerials (one is bent, the other missing).  i'm not very familiar with the ins & outs of the unit but i saw these on ebay, would these fit the 9191? if not, any ideas or leads on where i could find some?  thx in advance

Too long...9191 aerials are only 6.5 inches retracted. I paid about £3 each for ones that fitted perfectly

thanks man.  did you buy those antennas off ebay (universal but correct size) or did you get ones original to the 9191? if they are universal ones, do you remember who you got 'em off of?  i kinda lucked out because shipper was in germany (which seems many 9191's come from) but i have a friend in england who is going to accept the package & then ship off to me.  probably wouldn't have been able to get it if he didn't help me out.  very stoked to find one in a relatively short amount of time.  seller said everything works well, includes ac cord, the only major flaw other than normal wear is the aerials so i hope i can find a set.  thanks again

Here you go...6.5 inch aerials and I think this is the seller I got mine from. Get your uk mate to get a couple and ship them with the 9191...job done

Well my 9191 is one of the first few boxes I bought and still one of my favourites...I'm sure you'll be pleased with it

thanks. from your experience what would be the best route for hooking up my iphone/ipod to it without rewiring to get a line-in? i've read varying opinions on it but not sure if i should go with the phono input attenuator or if i should go with the 3.5 stereo to stereo (with a mono convertor) cord into the mic/mix input on top.  i have a feeling i will be using this method of playback (ipod) more than cassettes although i still have a nice collection that i've held on to. sorry to be a bother, i'm pretty technically savy but the boxes are pretty new to me.  i got my sony cfs-65s working great with my iphone through the line-in although i knew going in that the 9191 wouldn't be such as easy hookup

found these ones too, do you think these would fit?  not sure if the base(screw) matches up but they are the right length.

They look they'll do too

I use my 9191 with a phono attenuator as you put your iPod/iPhone on full volume, plug it in, and off you go

It's perfectly good to use the mic in too without an attenuator but you have to tweak the volume levels to get it right, too much and it distorts. Sounds great via either method.

Thanks northerner! I wasn't sure if the screw-in base on those would fit /match it but I'm happy to hear that they would work. Im going to play around w the different options & see which sounds best, I suppose first thing will be to see how the system is sounding/functioning  to begin with. Appreciate the info., thanks again

The base ie the bit before the bend is normally ok on a box. It's only the main part you have to replace when it gets bent/broken. Just slots in with a little screw to hold it.

You only have to worry about the base if some numpty has ripped the whole thing out.
