Replacing caps ... what/where to source?

jt.techno - 2013-11-14 13:37

Hi all - I am thinking of replacing some capacitors that I think may have blown in my 'dodgy' GF-9191 ... the one with the popping left audio channel (if you have read my previous posts) and I am after some advice. Do I need to source 'audio quality' caps or will any do ... and even better, can anybody recommend a good source for them in or around the Portsmouth area or by post in the UK?

Hi John. Radio Spares, Maplin, Rapid Components and CPC are all good for mail order components. Ebay is not a bad place to look as well. Audio grade caps are well worth using if they are in the audio signal path. I use either Rubicon or Panasonic capacitors.

Cheers

Seb

I also found watching these useful to remind myself how easy soldering should be (given I have not picked up a soldering iron for some years now :-)  http://youtu.be/AFsO-Qz0MGE ...and... http://youtu.be/fYz5nIHH0iY  ...hopefully these are quite self explanatory too ...I liked the toothpick tip ...have fun!
