Who remembers these bad boys? ... I found my old one (bought 'back in the day' ) when I just started sifting through my old cassettes I kept from 20 odd years ago to feed into my recently resurrected 9191. I guess that a q-tip is probably the way forward these days but it brought a smile to my face seeing this again :-)

Yeh I have a couple of different ones...I never use them either lol...cotton bud is more effective IMO. Bought one yesterday that also claims to be a demagnetiser...but it has no battery so I'm not sure how effective it is...still what do you expect for 50p

I used to use them back in the day and still have one somewhere but even though the HiFi mags raved about them I was never really comfortable with a pad that pushes crap backwards and forwards over the head. I don't seem right. Even when used with the supplied solvent it is going to cause scratches. It has to.

I have one of those; all it does is wiggle a permanent magnet back and forth in front of the heads! It's not very effective and probably does more harm than good. Still, put in a cheep expendable cassette recorder and watch the cogs go round, it's pretty cool for that!!

Same here Nick,

I bought one without really looking at it and then shelved it for the same reason. It doesn't clean, it just relocates the dirt

I wonder what other boombox/cassette related gadgets we also bought 'back in the day' that we're equally hyped up but never ever really used? Glad this has generated some reminiscing, even if only the fact such a gadget is collecting dust somewhere hidden safely in a forgotten place in your homes ;-)
