GF9696 Deck query

nickfish - 2013-11-29 04:49

Hello folks,

I appear to have been duped into buying a GF9696 that 'just' needed belts by someone that had owned it from new, only to find that it has some of the parts at the back of the tape deck missing!

The question for the Sharp afficianados is whether the deck on this machine is shared by any other Sharp machines?

I have several others but wanted to save myself the trouble of pulling them all apart if someone that knows these things could say for sure. Then I will start looking for a donor box of the right type.

Thanks very much for any help that you can offer.

Nick

Nick, I can take pics of the insides of mine if it helps.

Appreciate the offer Cris; but let's hold fire on that one in case someone can just say for sure that, say, a 9494 is the same or hopefully a more humble model?

Sorry to hear you have this problem. I think (but am not 100%) there are shared components between decks. Rather than them being identical there are a lot of the stuff that are the same but with some subtle differences such as the location of the attached PCB and little pieces. It would be better to try and identify what is missing and get those bits I think!? Pics of a complete 9696, 9494, 9191, 9090 is a good idea and a good place to start!

Nick I am almost 90% sure that the 9090, 9191 have a ver similar deck to yours. Different style buttons on the top of course but when you get inside I think they are the same. Possibly the GF-6000 as well but that will have a mono tape head!

strange this one !   flywheel back plate , solenoid and spring ,  ff/rw take off pulley all missing ?  anyway replaced them fitted 3 belts and the little rubber cleaned up all is good works a treat .  parts came of a 9090 the 91/94/96/90  decks share a lot of common deck parts .  i must admit sharps are a doddle to work on makes a change from aiwa"s and such .

You are simply effing amazing my friend. I feared the worst earlier when you told me what was missing and appealed for assistance because I know you have a lot on your plate but once again you pull a rabbit out of the hat.

What a star.

See you tomorrow buddy.

Thanks also for the offers of help from you guys; Dave, Seb and Cris. This is the good stuff!
