The BIN £5.00 Philips D8778

mrp32dave - 2009-11-13 08:32

Finally got the D8778 on Monday after the courier failed to collect it twice, booked for Tues re-booked for Thurs they picked it up on Fri? The seller wasn't happy and he was going away Fri for 2 weeks holiday, he kindly arranged someone else to wait for collection on Friday.
He did say he would pack it as best he could and they packing was far from ideal, but it survived I have to thank DHL for this.
The D8778 was very very dirty covered in a thick layer of smoking residue and very sticky, he used pieces of broken polystyrene as packing and the little balls from this were stuck all over it, even behind the speaker grills so these had to be removed during the clean up, not very easy.
I dedcided to complete the clean up before seeing if it worked, it cleaned up very nicely indeed and all it needed was a belt for deck B and is now fully working, also the speakers which as most people know are wooden have no corner damage as often happens with these.
This is a nice sounding box and is very loud Philips spec says 30w rms which I beleive.
So for £5 plus £8 for collection I'm pleased.
One more thing it came with batteries very old batteries, luckily only one had started to leak so no damage caused, the batteries have a use by date on them of 07.91!!!

Here's some pictures

Do those rusty batteries suggest a disaster in the battery compartment of the 'box?
