Desided to put my collection on show. It's missin a Hitachi 3D2 I bought from Blasterpunk (on it's way I hope) and the Sharp GF-6060.



The biggest JVC is my latest find from flea market - it cost only 5 euros but it's missing the cassette door.

Qt27 is excellent! Sturdy lil boombox. Still, I've been wondering is it possible to record music on tape from my computer? What kind of cord do I need or is it possible at all?

The silver in the middle is a Jetstar. The model might be U 150, but I don't know actually. I think this is german.

The only problem with Boxes from the 'Hood in the late 80's, was that you've noticed more and more of them with missing antennas because, (and it's sad for me to say this, but): PEOPLE WERE BREAKING THEM OFF TO SMOKE CRACK OUT OF THEM!!!

Yup, it's an Aiwa. TPR-926 to be exact. I like it too. It's a solid, heavy and very loud box. Only the tape deck isn't working, the belts should be replaced but I don't know the right sizes.

The 3D2 is on the roof of my -86 corolla fx. Actually I think that 3D2 is also from -86.

yup, the Hitachi 3D2 was available in 1986. It's a good little 3D, that one (& the smallest of all the 3Ds). Usually the 3Ds with the smaller centre woofer(s) aren't as good (like the 3D30), but this one is the exception. The 3D2 is one of the first generation 3Ds, with the best build & it has a sparkle to it's sound that is missing from some of the later models. you do have to be careful with that little centre woofer though, it runs out of puff pretty quick.
But, if you back off the bass a bit with the EQ it's quite a shouter for such a little'un.
Your 3D80 will handle lots more bass, of course with two of the larger woofers.

Yes you can.
Adjust the audio output volume from the computerto areound 50-67%. Plug a 3.5mm (headphone jack) from the computers sound-card output (or headphone output on a laptop) to the input of your chosen boombox.
Looking at what you have, I'd say the big Sanyo will make the best recordings, with it's manual recording level controls. However, you'll need an adaptor, as the audio input is a 5 pin din socket (like this one). Otherwise, most other boomers, like your 3D2, will have the more usual RCAs for aux-in, so you'll need a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable (like this one).

Oh yes, sanyo does that work so fine. The sound is excellent!

When I asked about that recording thing, I was talking about my Sharp Qt27, which has large DIN socket (tagged AMP) and two 3.5mm sockets (tagged EXT MIC). So does anyone know what those sockets do? I've recorded alot with my 3D2 and it works fine.

Oh, by the way: my M-X920 does have RCA and phono inputs, not DIN.

Yeah, it has fine-tuning knob. This one has SW1, SW2 and MW bands and FM and FM AFC.

You're right, this doesn't have fine-tuning at all. But that's ok to me, here in Finland we listen basically only FM transmissions.

EASTHELP is shortwave mad anyway OPAMOX, the sanyo is a beauty i have recently got one fully working in good condition, it,s gotta be my best box, absolutely stunning congrats on yours

On midsize boxes like the Aiwa, shortwave was only for advertising purposes. They did not expect you to actually use it. Thus no fine tuning control.

One of the best-sounding midsizes.......Good "warm" bass at low volumes. I wish the metal trim on top was gray instead of teal/aqua, though.

Yeah, it's a really nice one. It was the filthiest boombox I've ever seen. When I first opened the cardboard box the smell was something like ashtray, disgusting. After half an hour cleaning it was already much better and it is actually in pretty good shape! I was thinking of taking it apart to clean the pots and to wash the casing properly. I should change the belts also, but I don't know the right sizes. Also the radio doesn't have too good reception. Is there something I could do to get it working better?

One thing I noticed is that it looks like it only has input for phono. Is it really true that there is no line-in in this model?

Did you get it from germany? Most of my stuff from there reaked of nicotine. No disrespect.

Oh yes I did. Those damn smokin' germans.

Well, at least I got it cleaned quite well and it's complete with antennas and everything. I'm happy with it.
