Sharp WF 940 working now...

tobi - 2010-02-25 13:14

After months of waiting and trying my WF 940 is working now on both decks. The B Deck has a little wow and flutter, but it's ok, the autoreverse works on both decks and it's got a great sound. The best soundig unit sharp ever built i think.

It's not so big and heavy, so it's better to carry as a GF777 and it has an amazing sound and even in the high levels it sounds great, it's louder then the GF777 or the M70 but its consumption is rated at 90 Watt. Even when the Equalizer blasts the lower frequencies it sounds so loud, clear and bassy. It is more than a beauty.

Very functional, great featuers, very well built, extremely nice design and big square woofers. The 10 Band Analyzer looks great, 8 LEDs for each band. Good Tuner. But it would be great if it had Signal Strength LEDs and Battery Control, what I also miss is the manual record level, with the 80 LEDs it could have a Multi Function Display, but it only shows the 10 Frequency Bands, if you change the Intensity of one Band on the Equalizer, the analyzer also changes its intensity... not like on cheap systems. It's senseless and it eats batteries but it looks great, it should have a switch to turn it of to save batteries.

It has high speed Dubbing and Dolby B, Deck A has APSS, APLD (I always thought it would be the same) and (I've never heard of it before) APPS. The reverse mode is changable for both decks separate so on sequential play one deck can play both sides and the other only one, both only one or both decks both sides...

The Timer works great, It has a sleep Timer, maximum is at 64 Minutes, the sleep Timer works for Radio, Tape and Line In/Phono but i wouldn't use it for tape because when it turns off only the Tapedeck's power supply gets disconnected, it's not good for the tapehead, the pinch rollers and the tape itself. But waking up or recording with timer is no problem, you press play or record on the tapedeck after you set the timer and then the tapedeck will wait until the set time is reached. The tapehead, and the pinchrollers and the tape are safe because of the half logic control of the feather touch buttons, nothing will happen before the timer reaches the set time, no matter which button on the tapedeck is pressed. It can also wake you up with Radio or Line In/Phono.

A special feature is the Line In/Phono Switch on the backside, it has 3 Positions. One is CD (It's for louder sources like a CD Deck or a DVD Player) second is for portable sources like mp3 Player, to get the maximum power out of them, third is Phono, then you have your RIAA Phono Pre Amplifier. Typical for bigger Sharps it also has a Line Out with RCA Connectors. The Tapedeck has 2 motors, one for every Tapeunit.

The speaker wires only clipped on, you can use every other speaker without any plugs only need a blank wire, like on big stereo systems.

Very professional are the 3 6,5 mm² Sockets on the front.

I'm so in love with this thing... The beautiest best sounding blaster I ever had... And i had...:

Sharp GF8787
Sharp GF9292
Sharp GF9595
Sharp GF777
JVC RC M70
Hitachi 3D5E

And a few smaller units.

I'd like to know why the WF939/940 is so unpopular, it's hard to find some informations about it on the s2g Board, so as if nobody was interested in it.

Cheers, Tobi

I'm sorry, i got no Digicam but i found a Youtube Video of the WF 393:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LjheFGnR88

There are no buffer batteries for the Timer in it, you can see it on the clock.

Both Tape drives are ok now, but the "nipples" that find out if the tape is erasable both broke, when i tried to fix it, would be nice if anybody hat 2 of them for me, at the moment i can erase every tape.

Hey oldschool69 how das the CP7 sound? is it better then the WF 940? How much is the consumption power and how many batteries does it need?
