its beautiful man, are the speaker foams in good shape?

superduper - 2010-09-03 11:18

Niiiiice. I see the original passive radiator disk has been swapped out and a Polk Audio passive radiator has been installed in it's place.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-09-03 11:26

Hugo,no the foams have gone, they need renewing..the cassette belts were melted,i replaced them, both ariels have snapped,so i need to find new ones, the whole body was filthy dirty, years and years of nicotine,i have cleaned most of it,its come up like new..

Ahh norm, you have eagle eyes, you spotted it,i do have the origonal radiator disk but that also is yellow with nicotine, and was rotted, the center i fitted is the cone from a sony subwoofer,i used this because it is'nt foam, its rubber,i will keep that on until i get the chance to get the repair foams,i will need to find out the exact sizes..

lav.loo - 2010-09-03 11:29

docs - 2010-09-03 11:43

Niiiiiiiice, let us know how it sounds.

brigadier.vytas - 2010-09-04 02:22

my favourite box Frown. Congrats, GhettoFrown ..

:]

driptip - 2010-09-04 09:10

Ghettoman, i also have one that needs new belts and new foams, but can you tell me if your cassette motor is hard to turn by hand? because mine is !!

or mine could be gone!? done!?

im.out.of.hear - 2010-09-04 09:21

hi man..no mate,my motor is easy to turn, you might be able to spray a "tiny bit" of silicone spray,or wd40 down the shaft,or switch cleaner..sometimes motors do that,i just scoured ebay for some foams, but that fella "good hifi" in netherlands,he is the main seller of repair foams,he used to put the sizes in his auctions, but now he lists the foams for certain makes and models of speakers instead, and some of the foams i've been looking at are rather expensive..

Brigadier..
I know how you feel man,i wanted a GF999 for years and years,but..just like this aiwa, the 999 is a rare beast, its took until i was 40 to get one..

driptip - 2010-09-04 10:48

thanks Paul i'll try that! hope it works.

by the way how do you like your 999's? you got 2 right?

litfan - 2010-09-04 11:41

Paul, i had 2 880 aerials. Gave em to roddy. Damn.

im.out.of.hear - 2010-09-04 15:40

Dammit richard, they would have done me fine..richard did you have to refoam the speakers on yours ? just wondering where to get the repair rings from..there a strange size,5.25" inch..

Hugo, yes i have 2 GF999s,i've always loved that particular model,i dont know why,i just loved it the first time i seen it,i like it more than the GF1000,on the 1000,i dont like the white bass speakers, and dont like the missing bars from the outer bass, also not keen on the Cassette doors..
I love the 999,'ve actually converted them so they run off 240v,in my opinion, the sound from the 999 is slightly louder and nicer than the 777..as for looks,100% better than the 777 Smile

litfan - 2010-09-05 09:04

Can you remember that member called jeff paul? He was an 880 nut. He get`s the foams. He did my drivers, i did the radiator.

muto - 2010-09-05 09:10

The cs880 looks so cool. I hope i find one someday.

oldskool69 - 2010-09-06 16:53

Very nice! I hope you get the original radiator reconditioned as well. aHardbody (Tony from Sorrento, FL) would be porud with all the paperwork there! Big Grin

driptip - 2010-09-26 20:03

Ghettoman, have you fixed it yet?

chris69 - 2012-03-09 16:05

Wow only $239.00 in the USA! The Aiwa CS-880 was over twice that much here in Canada!
It sold for $495.00 plus tax at Great National Sound at 402 Queen St West in Toronto.

The CS-660 was $395.00

radio.raheem - 2012-03-09 16:55

Glad to say this is my 880 now...that's £239 not $ chris

chris69 - 2012-03-09 18:54

Ah that makes alot more sense haha! What is £239 equal to in Canadian dollars?

I know there was a huge difference in price between the Clairtone 7980 sold here in Canada and the Conion C100F that was sold in the USA. It was $150.00 to $200.00 more here in Canada but back then the Canadian Dollar was worth alot less too.
