Finally...Pictures of The Black Sansui CP-7!!!

oldskool69 - 2010-09-06 16:38

Been awhile since I posted here as I tend to hang out in the other hood, but have been a member here for a long time. Just not as active anymore. It's tough keeping up with multiple sites. (Facebook, etc.) Big Grin

Anyway...

Starting things off...

Thank you again to all who were involved in helping me get this rare beauty. Anyone who has seen my avatar when I got it or who has kept up with my search from when I was on a lot at s2g knows. I had wanted a CP-7 what seems like forever. I had been chasing a black on for 26 years. Very, very few came up on the 'Bay and they were scrappers at best.

Here is a brochure scan.

While living in Montgomery, Alabama during the week (because of work) a few years ago I came across a silver one one the 'Bay and outbid a certain individual from Houston to get it. Big Grin And it was located in Mississippi! Go figure! Laugh Out Loud

Then, while traveling back from the 2009 Sunshine Mix, lo and behold, a black one appeared. And the guys did their best to contact me but it was too late...It went to Houston. Frown

But, I am like Job, and have plenty of patience. I knew my day would come if I just remained faithful. And that day did come! I won't explain it here...

I'll let you read the original thread...

http://www.boomboxery.com/foru...3387&hilit=Black+CP7

There is no way t explain the efforts and generosity of the guys over there. Both Masterblaster84 and Sinister are long time members here as well and deserve again special thanks for their efforts and coordination. Big Grin

Now my original intention was to not open it until the Sunshine Mix 2010...BUT...as I moved the box, something ratled in the box which made me nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs! Confused Eek

So reluctantly...(really, my wife was even worried)...I opened it up and...whew! All was well! It was just the power cord. Big Grin

While I was at it I also got a new in box Sansui FX-W51R from my wife! She had always wanted to get me the Black CP-7 but the guys beat her to it. Laugh Out Loud She said it was a good thing though because getting on the 'Bay at that time was not an option with hungry kids in the house waiting on dinner! Laugh Out Loud My wife is the greatest!

And so the Sunshine Mix for 2010 rolls around. And though Ira's Toshiba was special...it still didn't have original untouched papers! Laugh Out Loud Here is the video...(follow link...could not get it to embed code)...

After unveiling it and sharing the joy, I have finally got a chance to take some pictures that I am happy with using my meager photo skills. (And as always, I come through slowly but surely!) Following those will be my new avatar I made using GIMP2.

Here, finally are the pictures! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

And now what will be my new avatar... :-D

Again...Thanks to the The Brotherhood! Boomboxery!!! Big Grin

CONGRATS Oldskool. That was definitely worth the wait. How woul you compare the sound to some of the other Grails?

Thanks! Big Grin

I don't know how to compare it. I really just don't. It actually sounds like miniature Sansui Hi-Fi gear. That's the best description. It is so well balanced, so well rounded.

If you look at it's direct competition for the time, the JVC PC-3/5, and the Pioneer CK-3/5 it, to me anyway does a better job in the one speaker, all frequencies battle. (Though the CK-3 does have a tweet.) And assembled, it outshines them in quality of build, but noen of them are slouches. Smile

The CK-5 will out punch them all for bass though it depends on where it's sat due to speaker design. In open space the playing field levels quick. The Sansuis little passive radiator gives it an advantage because the speaker is more controlled and it really does help on the low frequency end. Smile
