NevOne collection - pictures updated periodically

nevone - 2010-10-26 14:04

Hello! I-m new here, but i collect boxes for quite a while. I have some good ones, some lookers, some that sound good, and some just take space.
I will post here some of them.
Please let me know what do you think.
Also, i-m missing the "tape operation" knob of my777, any ideas with what i can replace it? unfortunately, even similar looking, i did not find anything that i can use on my 9797

lav.loo - 2010-10-26 15:54

welcome aboard NEV1, great collection you got there, i love the philips d8614, it's one of my faves, thanks for posting up your collection, where abouts in the world are you Big Grin Wink

fresh.produce - 2010-10-26 15:55

Welcome nice collection great looking rock boxes Big Grin

nevone - 2010-10-26 21:45

Thank you for the worm welcome. I-m from Romania, Europe. All of my boxes were purchased locally, tried to get some from ebay.de but somehow the sellers do not like the idea of shipping here.
The box market here is preety dry, but i monitor local flea markets and romanian ebay like sites and what i like, i usually buy.

The 777 was a lucky find. A guy from another town 250 km away posted the announce on a local internet announces site, so the next day i drove all the way there to see if he-s for real. Turns out that the seller was some kind of debt collector and just "recuperated" this unit from a bad payer. He had lots of vintage audio but that was definitely his lucky break. Of course, he googled it and saw what kind of money they were asking on ebay for such a thing, and he was asking even more. Whatever, all this did not matter to me, payed the man and took off with the box, before letting him getting any other ideas. His condition is good, everything is working, a single knob is missing and you can still see the spots where the original sticker was glued on the grills.
The sound on the 9696 blew me away. Mint condition, excepting the scratch on the front pannel.
The 9090 haves decent sound, but nothing to get that excited. Was a good deal and a nice loker.
The Hitachi TRK 8190E sounds louder and clearer than expected, but haves some kind of broom on the left channel, i have to look into it.
I got the 9797 prior to my 777 find, it-s a nice looking unit but haves some FM reception problems and it-s lighter than it looks. Also, the sound is not quite what i expected.
The Philipses (D8614 and 8734) are definitely lookers but that-s about all i can say about them. Is it normal that on both of my units, when powered on with no casette on the tape deck, at maximum volume to hear a broom comming from the speakers?
The Hitachi TRK W550E i bought from next to nothing, rahter small unit but sounds better than 8734. Did not opened the box but it looks like have 4 tweeters not 2.
I like the 5p-37G TV unit. Everything-s working, heavy, well built and good sound.
Also i was surprised of the sound quality of my "sound" unit. On the back, it is labeled Onkio, and have German writing on it, but i seen this model having a great deal of names on the internet. The spare tape compartment is funny.

Now, some other pieces on my collection:

nevone - 2010-10-26 22:11

I-m replying to this topic to see what pictures i have posted and comment about them in order.

When i first saw the Crown, i decided to let that one go, because i had allready spent my boombox budget for that month for 3 other boxes, the 9696 being one of them. A few months later, the dude who bought it was selling it again, at half the price, so obviously i suspected there was something wrong with it. Bought it anyway, and surprise, everything was ok. I did not expected this medium unit to sound so good and loud, even at max volume.
The 6060 sounds good even if looks flat, preety decent mid level unit. Unfortunately, his antenna is missing.
The Hitachi CX W700 is very loud, have his passive bass woofer working (the cd doesn-t however) and i got it as a bargain. Initially, did not expect much of him, but now it-s the box i can take with me on BBQ-s and such not being afraid it would be damaged (solid as a rock) and not having to watch it all the time not to get stolen.
The Soundwave DC-1100 i got for next to nothing and needs some serious cleaning. It works but every dial and slider cracks and puffs. Is this a Hitachi 3d clone or a legit box?
Pretty disappointing Hitachi 3d30. Sound is weak, woofer-s only for show and top of that, the unit got smashed during transport (top left corner).
I guess the youngest piece of my collection is the GF-A1. 90's box says it all.
The mini Standard box is preety amazing. Very tough built, decent sound, everything works and they somehow managed to squeeze 2 tape decks in the size of a Mono. Anyone can tell me more about this unit?
The Philips 584 is definitely not a looker but it haves unexpected sound quality. I cannot say that about the Toshiba 200S. The fine tuning dial is missing and the auto reverse is not working.
I got this Grundig C4100 as a gift, so i-m emotionally attached to it. Very good build quality and interesting antenna. And please don-t laugh about my sharp twin. My dog find it interesting. Got it as a bonus, for spare parts. It-s the only one in my collection that does not work, took off the speakers that were busted. Haves the handle on the side and it is surprisingly heavy for its compact size.
The Universum box unfortunately got smashed during transport. One of his detachable speakers is damaged. Otherwise, it would have sounded decent for the money spent on it.

For any questions/ additional pictures, please reply to this thread. I will be glad to answer them if i can. I have tons of questions too, this is why i joined this great community, but all in due time.

panli - 2010-10-27 07:32

Very nice collection you have. Eek
It's hard to me to understand how did you managed to get all those marvels just here in Romania.
Anyway, good luck in collecting!

nevone - 2010-10-28 02:18

Thank you PanLi! I don-t know where you-re from, i-m from Bucharest, and in the Vitan flea market you could find a decent box once a month, it depends on luck. On okazii, there are some decent boxes right now, but usually the price there is high. However, you, being a fan of GF's, you can see 3 or 4 in mint condition there.
Also, all my friends know i-m collecting boxes and if they see one somewhere they let me know.
Now i have a problem of space storage, and no more room for new boxes, unless they are legendary ones.

mellymelsr - 2010-10-28 08:43

That is a very nice collection of radios you have... clap

docs - 2010-10-28 11:32

Thanks for posting, looks great.
Get in touch with member Bredgeo to see if he can make you a switch for your 777.

samsnite - 2010-10-28 11:54

Very cool collection!

davebush - 2010-10-28 12:54

I Agree thats a fine collection...lovin the 9090 in black

brigadier.vytas - 2010-10-31 09:04

Amazing collection, man! My fav is Sharp with TV - looks like a device from tank, but still very beautyful. Also, Sound (?) box looks very original and nice to me, never seen that one. Many greetz from Lithuania!

nevone - 2010-11-01 15:14

Thank you all!
@Doc - I will, thank you for the suggestion.
@Dave, that 9090 is not black but a dark gray. I like the old sharp logo on it.
@Vytas: the 5P37 is indeed a heavy and large box, and wide too (because of the TV tube i guess, haves a big lump on the back). The "Sound" box have german writing on it, it is lighter than looks but also sounds better than it looks. The spare tape compartment is a very nice touch, haven-t seen this elsewhere.

brigadier.vytas - 2010-11-02 08:38

Ukrainian Oreanda PM-203 C box has a secret area for couple of cassettes:

As you can see in the pic - made in 1990. Crazie..

nevone - 2010-11-02 16:21

nice box, but no tweeters? odd...

devoltoni - 2010-11-03 08:50

Hi NevOne, nice boxes you have there jaw drop Nod Yes
thanks for sharing

And welcome

nevone - 2010-11-04 03:50

Hello All,

I have recently put my hands on a mini-box named Silver SR500 produced by Shin-Shirasuna electronic corp, Japan.
Well, all i have to say is...wow.
It-s very little, but it haves a very good quality build and sound. It sounds 3 times better than it looks, also it-s 3 times heavier than it looks. Haves soft touch buttons like some philips, nice leds on wu-meters, play, rec, pause. The speakers are detachable, and the grip sistem is metallic, and it flods back with a nice soft-eject sound. They even put little rubber bits so the handle does not clap when folded. Well, enough talk, here are some shots for your viewing pleasure:

P.S. got this for the price of 5 happy meals.
P.P.S. can someone tell me what year this model was produced?

brigadier.vytas - 2010-11-06 08:34

found this one at pocketcalculatorshow page :]

nevone - 2010-11-06 11:08

yes, it-s basically the same thing, only mine haves German writing on it and branded different.

driptip - 2010-11-07 20:48

hey NevOne, the Silver one looks great!
i like it.

nevone - 2010-11-10 03:56

Thank you and stay tuned for updates. Another boombox is on his way, pics soon.

bredgeo - 2010-11-11 10:09

DUDE!!!!!! RESPECT!!!!!!! You started you show with Sharps!!!!!!!!!! You cannot go wrong there for fricking sure (the others are okay... Big Grin)

Welcome!

Oh, and if I am not mistaken, most of your Bboxes came from Germany, no? let us know.

See ya.

nevone - 2010-11-16 02:32

Thank you Bredgeo. To be frank i don-t know where the boxes come from, it-s a strong possibility that they are coming from Germany, but i buy them locally in Romania. If you look hard enough, you find whatever you want here. It-s always a question of luck.

And that brings me to my newest find. After loosing a Philips, i got this Watson for a steal:

Watson RR5850:

It-s actually a mini 3 piecer, looks bigger in picture, but haves nice vu-meters and acceptable sound.

Seller also threw in these things in the deal, even if not boomboxes, they are quite nice:

Is that walkman something special or just a regular model? (not a walkman fan, but liked the big window to the tape)

nevone - 2010-11-24 14:14

Right now i-m doing some cleaning...but when i-m nearly done...all i can say...xmas came earlyer for me this year. Expect something nice Smile

nevone - 2010-11-25 03:30

And here comes the pics:
First in the show, there-s this very nice sounding Grundig RR 2000. After that, the one that steals the show is the SONY CFS-88L, with 20 cm speakers.
But judge for yourselfs:

nevone - 2010-12-15 01:58

Hmm, it seems that since this topic got the second page, nobody looks at it anymore. Or nobody liked my Sony.
Well, here-s another one anyway.

Nice to have that "professional" tag. Sounds great and looks like German warfare technology.

Le good old German Know-How!

nevone - 2010-12-17 02:26

hehe, you are absolutely right Bredgeo.

Speaking of German Know how...
My new Telefunken Hifi Studio 1 M.
This is how it looks after 4 hours of cleaning. Will do better soon. Tape does not work, vu-meters have one light missing but the sound is absolutely amazing. 3 way speakers, separated kick-bass, medium and tweeters. Have far more power than anything on my collection and i have seen a few. If there is a boombox that i should have bought, then this is the one. Weights 15 kilos.
Here are some pics:

Currently, it-s a work in progress. I-m going to make this work as new. Will also transform Din-style aux in RCA aux.

bredgeo - 2010-12-17 09:47

Nooooooo!!!!! Keep it original!!!! Don't change the DIN!!!!!! Frown

Ah, it is your radio.... Do as you wish.... Roll Eyes

Oh, and DO let us know how it goes for the fixing of the inside. Big Grin

nevone - 2010-12-17 10:55

Haven't opened it yet. It definitely need new belts and a bulb change. Also i suspect it needs a good cleaning on the inside. And a greasing of the volume knobs.
I really like this radio and i want to use it a lot, this is why i need the RCA input. I do not have anything with DIN input. I will keep the original part and will not do any drilling,to easy revert to original if needed.

fresh.produce - 2010-12-18 00:00

Wow what a great sony cfs 88 box iam still on the hunt for one of those how's the sound on that bad boy

bredgeo - 2010-12-18 03:16

NevOne,

Here (so you do not alter the M1 too much)... I have made a couple and bought one -these are mainly DIN to male RCA (my DIN to female RCA are in France):

Hope this gives you ideas!

Latter!

nevone - 2010-12-18 04:27

@Fresh Produce: the sound on the CFS is very good, very clear and strong, but has a little lack of bass. Also, having a very big antenna, radio reception is super ok. Haves RCA-imputs.

@Bredgeo. That-s an idea, i will look for one of those DIN adapters.

bredgeo - 2010-12-18 06:34

Yeah, go for it!

nevone - 2010-12-20 22:56

Scored a Tecsonic Super Jumbo. Mint condition, everything working. Sounds like crap. Of course, after i heared the Telefunken everything tend to sound like crap.I have some ideas to improve the sound quality however.
Here are some pics.

This is my 30th box!

lav.loo - 2010-12-21 14:59

hey NEVONE, sorry i missed this post mate, you have some very nice boxes indeed, love the super j and the telefunken, and love the cfs88 for every reason it is, very innovative unique design, congrats in order Nod Yes Wink

driptip - 2010-12-21 16:12

nevone, nice radios. specially the j1

nevone - 2010-12-22 00:45

Thanks, guys!
Just opened the J1 and seen that it has been messed with a little bit (photos will follow in a separate thread). Also, it-s missing quite a few screws. I-ll see if i can find a donor from another box. It seems that the J1 also been used by painters, because, even if it was clean, i found traces of green paint in places rather hard to reach without putting him apart.
I also intend to soundproof it on the inside. A much stiffer and heavier box will result, and I am confident that sound will improve.

@Bredgeo: found the DIN adaptor in one of my toolboxes, apparently i had one all along but forgot about his existence, so the Telefunken will stay untouched.

bredgeo - 2010-12-22 00:59

YEAH!!!! There you go!

Sound-proof the J1 will make the bass much more friendlier, for sure!

bogdan - 2010-12-22 11:02

Hi NevOne!Glad to see someone else from Romania here on this great forum.Nice boxes!

nevone - 2010-12-23 01:45

Hello Bogdan. Actualy we are allready 3: you, me and PanLi. Hope that we-ll see more.

samsnite - 2010-12-24 01:54

Mad stuff! You get high scores one by one... with this rate you have em all real soon...

nevone - 2010-12-24 11:46

Well, don-t picture Romania as being boombox heaven, but i have been lucky so far. And it seems that i have the right connections. Some sellers from where i usually buy first ask me if i want them before they put them on sale. And i just can-t say no to a good boombox. However, as i am living in a one-room apartment, space is beginning to be a problem and i have to be more picky for 2011.

bogdan - 2010-12-27 12:45

3 is a good number Big Grin!
And we are expecting new members all over the world to share with us their consideration on this great passion, the bbxes!

ghettolife - 2011-01-13 13:40

NevOne,
Fine collection. You have a Studio 1. The 1M has silver faceplate. That Super Jumbo looks great.

nevone - 2011-01-13 23:19

Thank you Ghettolife! i see that you have a couple of Telefunkens yourself.

Speaking of Telefunken, i have replaced the missing bulbs on mine....with yellow led's. First tried white but yellow gives more of a retro look.
Had to use resistors to match the voltage. Changed all the 3 bulbs from the front. The one from the back (signal strength) is still the original one.

Also, i have managed to pick another telefunken body, a silver one as a parts donor. Unfortunately in bad shape, haves dents, but i can use the scale button, the belts, the battery cover, and whatever i might still need from it.

So what-s the actual difference between 1 and 1M? on the silver one i still have just "1" written on it.

driptip - 2011-01-14 09:05

i like the telefunkens, from what ive seen one of them only goes up to 104 on the tuner and the other goes upto 108

nevone - 2011-01-14 11:39

Those two goes up to 104 to FM

beatlesfire - 2011-02-08 22:30

This is an absolutely awesome collection!
Congratulations!

kingrat2010 - 2011-02-09 00:14

great collection, love the super jumbo

nevone - 2011-02-11 06:57

Thank you guys!

Let me update the thread with what i scored lately: a ok condition Sanyo C-7. Nice sound.
