Philips D8814

mrp32dave - 2010-11-21 10:22

Not very often you get a real bargain from Ebay, but the D8814 I received on Friday surely is. It's working condition was described as would not power up when plugged in, anyone who knows this box will aware that they can have issues with the power switches, but a much simpler reason is if there is no power to the LCD clock then it will never turn on.
This was a poor listing with no model number in the title or description and only 2 rather poor pictures, but from these its condition looked good and I could see no clock display.
First thing I did when the box arrived was check the clock battery compartment, ther was batteries there but they were long dead, popped in to fresh AA's and the 8814 powered up and was fully functional, I couldn't believe my luck. Only one issue FM reception was poor, but I noticed it improved when my fingers were close to the external ariel socket, mmm I wonder if the antennas are connected.I Quckly removed the back and sure enough they were unplugged, connected them back up perfect FM reception. The box was fairly clean with just some dust and a few paint splatters only took half an hour to clean it. I was pleasantly surprised with sound of this box but it is a high built quality machine.
So here's the pictures, but how much did I pay?
£5 Big Grin what a steal!
There 21 pictures and I think the condition of this box deserves them.

Very nice and for this time of produce a high tec bbox - but I like the smaller version, the 8714 more, because it's silver color ...

The silver D8714 has to be one of the best looking boxes I've ever seen.
