Change of radio luck

samsnite - 2010-12-05 03:20

Soooo... i have come over some fresh hardware again, seems like it has piled up towards the end of the year...

starting with this crazy cool and good looking Akai AJ-212... naah just kiddin

Next up DUX TR 4883. Im pretty sure this is a Philips aka 3piecer. Saved this one from being thrown in the thrash! Cant believe my luck, i was working (as electrician) in the local hospital when a maintenance guy walked by with this radio in his hand. They had it in their coffe room. He asked me if this is any good, he was going to throw it away! So i explained that i coincidentally happen to collect these radios! Bopping So i said yes thank you and took it home!

Well it has a gutted tape deck, no antenna, loose speaker terminals but it sounds quite nice and looks cool. This will be my next top model project, i will make it a one piece box and fit a larger battery and implement a mp3 player somehow...

And then a Pioneer SK-303L, a poor bastard. Poor condition, missing metal trims and poor sound quality. Funky looks.

Last but not least a Pioneer SK-404L, a REALLY funky and weird unit! Cool Just take a look at the lid on the top and the tape deck buttons underneath it! Also notice there is no PLAY button, the tape rolls all the time when the tape is selected from the select buttons. wtf ??? I also love the all hidden antenna. Line in. It is a really heavy unit but the sound is not great at all. I now own three Pioneer radios and all of them have quite poor sound. Oh, and there is obviously a missing metal trim around the lid... A truly weird design...

But now to the best part: It was picked up from the hospital electronics thrash. FREE STUFF!

That Pioneer 303 was my first stereo radio-cassette.. Basic unit for sure, didn't think the sound was too bad, good bass but poor top end. I now have the SK-353, much better machine.

Bang on the money with the description of the 303, 2steppa. Don't know about the 353 though, I've never had one of those.

I own the 353L also, i would say 303 and 353 are the same but 353 has more features. The sound is almost identical, and i have to take back a little, the sound is not bad at all, it just has no balls... lacking that nice edge. Not what you would expect from a Pioneer product (of this size).
