Dynasty HT-959 FOUND!

blufuz - 2009-04-14 10:19

I was able to snatch up this monster of a ghetto blaster. Dynasty HT-959.

I was at someones house that was going to sell me a snowblower off craigslist. They said it was in the basement so we went down to check it out. It was just trashed. I said no to the snowblower but noticed they were selling just about everything else and there were 6+ people in the house buying things too.

Well we ended up walking around the house and the lady said her brother died and they have to sell all his stuff off. OK, so we looked around some more and I saw the boom box. I don't know anything about them but it looked cool.

I offered the lady $10 and she said no and counter-offered at $15. I cringed and agreed. There was no power in the house and it was in the middle of winter. We were freezing cold and I just wanted to get out of there.

ANywho, now I am here showing it off! It has circuit board and chip problems that can't be fixed with new parts but the condition is amazing!

Wow! What an incredible find you made. Cool I'd be willing to bet that the boombox can be fixed - even if the inside board is broken. Where do you live? We might have a member close by who can help. Welcome aboard!!

blufuz - 2009-04-14 11:25

That would be awesome if someone could help me fix it. I live in Wisconsin. I have seen some other posters here that also live in WI.

Is there anything you can tell me about this box?

I have read that it is probably in the top 5 for the "biggest" ghetto blaster. 10" speakers, 10 tape storage, 10 D-batterys, dual tape, etc...

Well, after numerous calls, 4 different places to look at it, 2 electronic junkies, and some wierd dude down the street that used to fix JVC components in the 80's and has a basement full of old stereos, I have come to the point where no one can help.

I wired up an old car CD player w/MP3 input to the speakers and am powering it with one of my 14.4v drill batteries. It actually sounds pretty awesome. I think I could get at least 5+ hours of play time out of one battery charge.

The worst I did was cut the speaker wire to jump it from the car stereo.

Welcome blu!

Great score you did! Nod Yes
The "Master Blaster" is a power machine.
Most sold as ELTA, AUDIOTON, HELIX,...
Never seen your label.

What troubles have you with it?

fatdog - 2009-04-14 11:52

Definitely go to Radio Shack and pick up an AC power cable! Wink

Yeah, what exactly will the box NOT do? Radio, cassette, power on? Confused

blufuz - 2009-04-14 13:18

I have the AC power cable or one that fits anyway.

Plug it in, it turns on and not off(lights come on). Tape decks do nothing when the buttons are pushed(no motors turn even). if I switch the functions to "tape, aux, am, fm" still nothing. If i leave it plugged in the alarm starts to screetch oh so loud(yes it has an alarm). The transformer "hums" and makes a click noise when I wiggle the wire when plugged in. I replaced a transistor and a capacitor that were shot and still have the same results.

viennasound - 2009-04-14 21:01

It seems, the "Sensor" button is pressed (or have a failure)!
Check this and this thread, maybe it helps. Wink

gluecifer - 2009-04-14 21:23

Id be leaning towards ViennaSound's theory too, the sensor when enable essentially puts in in 'sleep' mode. Have a try with the sensor button in a different position, the button could be failing at disabling it or it's stuck or something even.

Not sure what else it could be, but ViennaSound's been up to his elbows in his one.

Good luck blu_fuz

Rock On.

You guys are fantastic.

I use to have a faint sound out of the right speaker with the radio and the volume knob did nothing. I don't think it does anything with the batteries in either.

I do remember something happening when either the power button or the sensor button was pushed in part way. I can't remember.

I have had this box for over a year now and just found this site only because no one has ever seen the dynasty brand of what I have. So my searches for "Dynasty" anything only brought up the Discolite.....

Do any of you know who might have a sensor button and possibly 2 of the small knobs for volume/mix etc...?

Thanks again - JOE

blufuz - 2009-04-15 06:51

I just got done copying all the pics and links that you guys posted here for me to look at.

p.s. I also need one chrome function selection button IE, aux,cd, etc..

fatdog - 2009-04-15 08:03

Blu_fuz, here's an owner's manual for a Helix Wheely, the same as your box. It's not the best. Basically, some guy just took pictures of his manual instead of scanning.

I can't see anything.... ?

It just has a link for a zip file and when I click it it tells me I have to log in.... Confused

blufuz - 2009-04-17 08:20

I have been doing a lot of reading on the site and I have learned tons!

So, it seems that no one has another boom box like mine in the Dynasty brand. I have found pictures of just about every other label this box can be under. Is this super rare or does that not matter?

blufuz - 2009-04-18 06:11

Last night I looked, and mine also has wheels Cool

gluecifer - 2009-04-18 06:33

Good stuff Blu! Educating yourself on here is one of the internet's most wondeful past times I've certainly found.

A lot of the wackier ghettoblasters, like yours, are branded under quite a few different names. There seems to be a trend of one or two more widely known of these and then numerous others that received a smaller or more country-specific distribution.

In the grand scheme of things it's essentially the same radio, but the brand name is the only real difference. So your Dynasty model of the Master Blaster is probably a rarer bird than than the Helix or Elta (or ESC in my case) releases, but is essentially the same radio.

But saying that, I'm sure there are NUMEROUS collectors on here who adore getting as many of the different "AKA"'s of their favourite radios as possible.

Hope you have some luck restoring your Dynasty Blu!

Rock On.

Hi Joe. You prob. already figured it out, but the wheels are retractable. Wink

blufuz - 2009-04-21 09:56

Yep, I see the wheels are retractable. It is wierd that the entire time I have had this I never looked at the bottom Roll Eyes.....

I really have looked high and low for someone to fix this for me, but no luck. It could just be a faulty "sensor" switch but I don't have the tools to troubleshoot it.

If anyone can help for a reasonable price, PM me please. Otherwise I will just keep it powered with a drill battery and a car CD player and try to keep it clean and original as possible.....

I read somewhere on the site that I can power the actual boom box with a car battery??? If I have 8 or more "D" size battery box then I can do that apparently. Make a whip of wire to attach to the springs of the battery compartment with a ciggy plug on the other end to power it like that - is this true?

blufuz - 2009-04-21 10:08

P.S. I got the zip file to open up. Thank you Wink
