Nice!!!

But I am still in wonder on how some say that a three piece is a boombox... Roll Eyes

Don't be Mad but they are not, even if some look good... on a shelf and stay there... Leaving

I respectfully disagree. A boombox by definition from Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: boom box/boombox/ghettoblaster
Function: noun
Date Incarnated: 1981 : a usually large portable stereophonic radio and tape or CD player.

And another point as these were released from mid to late 70's:

And if you really want to get technical you go back to the 50' and 60's when the majority of protable stereo's were three piece units whether it was a reel to reel, turntable or cassette. My point is that there is no true boundary, only what society has associated with the term. An RX-DT707 is still as much a boombox as a Conion C-100F. It meets the definition. Whether we like it or not even these wierd iPod dockboxes are a boombox as long as it takes batteries and is portable (most aren't) with some sort of handle. Is it classic? No. That's where you should clarify what is a "classic" boombox versus some iPod dockbox. And, yes, by the examples I've provided...my RX-C100 is a "classic" boombox. Big Grin

Yes, yes... I understand, but that is a book, a book to guide... to give image. My image is not three piece.

I used to have one at the age of of 18 to 21 and could not accept it as "IT" even if a book says it is...

Don't get me wrong, I could be right by your side agreeing to that at the MAX! But for me it is not a Bbox. It is just me, it is in the mind, it just HAS TO BE a solid unit. That is all, just me

This said, I would LOVE an M1... but it would not be a "BOX" 'cos it is a three piece, see what I mean????????

Nice idea to compare sizes. I discovered how much bigger is the CX-100 against the DT680.
I though the DT680 was bigger.

I understand completely. Smile I think what we have here is "definition by personal preference". Nothing wrong with that. Also note though, that I provided pics of two units and referenced what were the first portables out there. Those very early three piecers may not have been called "boombox" but they were the granddaddy's to what we have now. Big Grin

Hey oldskool, since you have both the RX-DT680 and the RX-C100 hows the sound quality, does the RX-DT680 beats the RX-C100?

Looks like it's time for a thorough review. I tell you what, I will be posting reviews about once a month. My first comparo will be the RX-C100 vs. RX-DT680. Stay "tuned"! Big Grin (Can you do that on a website? Laugh Out Loud)

ford93 - 2008-03-09 14:09

Only if the 680 is better! Smile

moncheeto - 2008-03-09 14:13

well to me its a boombox i can take it to the beach take the speakers off and point it in the direction i want the sound to be at any direction cant do that with a one piece and i can use batteries, so there are some that are home bound cannot take it with you so those would be the ones that are home stereo. i belive they where in fact maybe thinking enclosed speakers in a box portable and sound comparable to a home stereo they might seam a little different in looks but i still consider it a boombox that my 2 cents ..... Smile

hey ford --
if i were you i would put me on your ignore list
-
-- and wait for the extensive, professional review by oldskool--

but in case you cant wait - and need the shorty answer right now -::

well -
the 680 has a surprisingly good quality output -- but the C100 has much more power and thus a deeper stronger base --its just more 'true' sounding

ford93 - 2008-03-09 16:53

Why thank you Red, hey I haven't forgotten your request I've been too busy with hooking up a new item for my DJ system. I'll get to it soon and give you the results! Smile

I get your point Bredgeo! Smile
Maybe we should call them Boomcomponents or something like that since they are actually three boxes latched together.

I'm a one piece fan but I do have several of the 3 piece units because they are pretty cool.

Oldskool I'm not taking sides or agreeing with either of you, I'm staying neutral right now. Big Grin

I was just telling Bredgeo I can see his argument against calling them a boom"BOX" and he does have a point. Since they are called boomboxes by most I think it's up to non believers to make their case against calling them boomboxes.

Really doesn't matter to me because to each his own and if you want to call them boomboxes and somebody else want's to call them fence posts I say go for it. Big Grin
