Rising with LEDs

thafuzz - 2008-10-13 13:16

Following Frank's great idea, I decided to convert over my Rising's white dial band lighting too a way cooler Blue LEDs. I've got to be honest, I've never used a soldering gun, but it was really easy with my friend's guidance. Whatcha think? Thanks for the idea Frank Wink

Glad to see you finally got to it! With the red and blue lights now, it could be the official boombox of your department! Big Grin

That is wickedly cool Adam. Nod Yes I want to do the same to mine after seeing yours. Do you have some detailed instructions on the parts? If not I'll figure it out but it sure hurts less to have somebody just tell you. Big Grin

Thanks guys! Hi Don. I believe Frank used automotive LEDs from an auto parts store. I used Radio Shacks versions. About $2-$3 for a pair. They have some in red, green, etc. They even have one that changes colors- which would be cool since Risings stay on while the power is on anyway. I can PM you some pics of mine and Frank's too.

That would be great, I've worked with LED's a couple of times but If I don't have to figure this one out that would be even better. Big Grin

Pretty done!
I will try something at a box of mine.
I hope it will survive... Big Grin

Looking Good Adam ! I got mine back together but opted to keep the original equipment for the time being. I was setting up for a group photo and really wanted the Rising in there so I slapped it back together. Everything works again but I still need to take it back apart so I still might mod it ? Anyway yours looks KILLER ! The LED's make it even more eye appealing ! Nicely done Bro

Very nice. Has a calming effect in a way. Nod Yes

Lookin GOOOD! We need to start a 20/20 led club! We can all get members only jackets and blast out Risings in the park at night! Lets not forget to give credit to the original LEDer though. Kitmaster's LEDed out Rising was my inspiration. Cool

retro.addict - 2008-10-15 09:40

Damn, these Risings look great with blue dial lights! Cool

I've got to buy a 20/20 one day! Nod Yes

Actually, Chuck D, I believe mine came before Kittmaster's. Wink However, it was Chris who inspired me to redo mine with quad LEDs. Nod Yes Cool

By the way, I bought my LEDs from this website:

http://superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=LEDS

They have a much better selection and absolutely can't beat their prices. I got 10 Super White 18000mcd LEDs (including shipping) for about the same price of 3 white LEDs from Radio Shack.

Radio Shack charges $5.49 per LED - SuperBrightLEDS.com has better LEDs starting at $0.99. No brainer.

My B! You also get the credit Fatdog, and a jacket! Wink I went with the quad setup too and they are actually white as well. And... believe it or not that is where I got my LED's too! HIGH FIVE!
