Geezum crow! That's one of the most asskickingest radios I've ever seen! I've a bit of a fiaxtion for woodgrained electronics (nearly every game console I don't like the design of usually gets 'grained) I like the look of this even more than the Panasonic RX-5700, which has been on my grail list since I first saw it.

Please do a full review and let us know how she sounds Petey!

Rock On.

ford93 - 2008-10-13 05:15

Petey she is sweet look at those dustcaps and the side wood, man I've got to get one of these. Cool

kid.sensation - 2008-10-13 05:28

smokin' hot!!

she is absolutely beautiful and looks pure quality!

petey youre truly on fire, that's an awesome score!

petey.awol - 2008-10-13 05:44

If I wasnt helping a friend gut a house this whole weekend, today included, I'd be picking it up today. I truly believe in karma. Let me give you these 3 examples.

Well 1st one being obvious. I was giving my friend a hand alllll weekend gutting his newly bought house. I'm an avid partyeir and liver of the night life. I sacrificed a 3 day weekend to help my firned out. The end result. The awaiting Sanyo. And it coming cheaply.

Example 2, I find a Panasonic RX-300. Rare as a 3 dollar bill. Wasnt planning on selling it but a member here really wanted it and had been on a 13 year search to find one again. I sell it to him without Ebaying it. End result? I end up finding a GE TA-55 on Detroit Craiglist. Another rare as a Snuffelufegus sighting radio. Convinced the guy to send it to me for $125. Radio is a bueaty. All works.

Example 3. I help out a friend with him havign a back surgery. Look after his house, dog etc etc. End result. Finding a Conion C-100f on a local Cragslist for a mere $100.

Call it dumb luck, but i think some greater force is guideing me.

Pictures dont do it justice. Its a phone camera. In a few weeks I will get pictures of it via a real camera.

The box is in great shape. Few marks here and there but nothing really bad. The left anetenna is broken at teh the top, and the right is missing all together. (A real shocker, right?) The tape deck is stuck in play, pause, and record mode. The guy told me he had it rigged that way so he can play his cd deck thru it and had it hooked up to some guitar amp. Why he did this and didnt use the AUX in the back I dont know. So I couldnt test a tape. Is this going to be a "belt issue" like always? I dont know. However I did get lucky enough to score the original manual with it also. The guy just didnt have the actual box for it anymore. That would of been a grab and a half. It sounds great though. The radio tuner is really unique in itself. It has the standard tuner bar going across the numbers, as well as a digital display to show the station number on the tuner bar itself. Those work perfectly. Never seen one like that before. Mics are intact and nothing is broken on the box other then the aentenas. Truly a score. Had to drive 30 miles in to Long Island but I think it was well worth it. Got it cheap.

monolithic - 2008-10-16 15:34

Congratulations, Petey! Looks great! Cool

Hope you get the tape deck issues settled... Nod Yes

and step your camera game up! Big Grin

vladi123456 - 2008-10-16 20:30

Ahhhh, looks even better with the mics! Smile

fatdog - 2008-10-16 21:05

Damn! That M-X820K is a nice looking box! Does anybody know how rare this model is? I've never seen one until now. Heck, I didn't even know they existed...

vladi123456 - 2008-10-16 21:35

I think it's super rare. I've heard of this model, and I've had a pic of it for about a year, but I've never seen one anywhere. I think it's safe to say it's even more rare than Aiwa 880 or Panasonic 5350 - as I see those on Ebay every once in a while, but never this Sanyo. My link on a previous page doesn't work, so I'll place the image I have in here again - it's from the recallsharp.ru website

drmz - 2008-10-17 00:28

This looks like a serious box. Nice shape and layout and this analog peak meters rock! I wonder if the housing is made from real wood or just textured plastic?

petey.awol - 2008-10-17 13:50

In all honesty...I may or may not be keeping this box. Still after that minty J-1. After that dream is accomplsihed. The M-90. Two last boxes i really want. Everything else will be just "extras" to me.

vladi123456 - 2008-10-17 14:01

I would be interested - if you decide to part with it Smile

petey.awol - 2008-10-17 14:05

No bullsh*t, alot of people have already reached out to me about this box. I can see why people want it. I'm just looking for the monster boxes myself.

vladi123456 - 2008-10-17 14:38

That is fine - it should be first come, first served. Just keep me in mind though Smile

prime - 2008-10-19 08:40

Here's a pic of the 2 band version.

You must place the deck in REC mode to enable the AUX inputs on the back. It sucks but thats the only way. The VU meters only operate while in this mode. Otherwise, they indicate battery power and tuner signal strength.

petey.awol - 2008-10-19 15:11

Any idea on how to get it out of REC/PLAY/PAUSE mode? The tape head is up in play and its stuck. I press every button and nothing dislodges it. Think he wore out the belts inside and this is my problem? I dont wanna open it up. If i have to then I have to.

Anyone with a spare J-1 they'd trade for this box? I only picked it up because I never seen one. Wanted to check out the mics. The price was right. Will try to post better pictures whenever i get a camera going.

My first guess would be the belt, but since the guy stated he had it "rigged that way" then
maybe you could ask him.

My offer to Petey Awol was on Fri October 17 2008 02:44 AM
So, you, Vladi, aftee me, OK? Big Grin

vladi123456 - 2008-10-19 21:53

Mike, no problem - it's yours Smile

sikorsky - 2008-10-19 22:11

Thank you, Vlad.
Now only it is necessary to agree with Petey Awol Laugh Out Loud

petey.awol - 2008-10-19 23:52

When i picked up the box we both sat there for 20 minutes trying to unrig it...so I have no idea what to do. I'm gonna have to open it and take a look inside. I'm not a repair man, but at least it'll show me if its the belts or not.

(A straight swap for a J-1 or any of that radio's clone would be accepted first.)

killdamon - 2008-10-22 21:55

Nice one.
I'm still lookin' fer the M-X650K .If anyone has one they would wanna part with, i want one. There was a nice mint one on the bay a month ago that had the box and manual, but i got cut up in the last moments of the auction Frown broke me heart.

ghettoboom777 - 2008-10-22 23:00

Hi-That is one rare Sanyo! A woodie!
I've never seen one!
Super cool box.
Have a great week-Ghettoboom777. Smile Nod Yes

moncheeto - 2008-10-24 14:11

i think this box is the 920 little bother as it shares most of the 920 deck, speakers, amp very good find indeed
