my radios on Flickr

I startet this summer collecting boomboxes and today I made some pictures of my collection. You can find them on my Flickr Page.

Unfortunately my old sony digicam is weak - especially for indoor shots. I hope you still can enjoy the pictures. I will try to get my brothers camera and hope for nice weather to make some better shots.

I think it´s not allowed to post images from Flickr directly to other pages so I will upload smaller versions to imageshack tomorrow. But if you want to take a look now: just follow the link. I´ve got some walkman, too.
Oh and I found the s2g flickr-group - I´m proud to be a member in this exclusive circle =)

Nice collection and pretty nice pics, you've got plenty of boxes to be proud of. Smile

Thank you all for your nice comments.
The crown and panasonic are my favourites, too. Crown for the clean classic front with big chrom surrounded speakers and the panasonic for his overall build quality.

About the grundig RR 2000: I think it´s more a world reciever than a boombox. So it has a good tuner that catches radio stations really good and it even has 6 fm-presets. On the backside are 6 small knobs, which "save" your favourite radiostations and they can be selected by the 6 preset buttons on the front. This is working really good, but you have to find them blind. A good way is to choose a station with the main fm-mode , remember the song which is actually playing and than switch to a preset and turn the knob on the back until you find the same song. Nice feature.
Soundwise its a good radio. Not a bass monster - main speakers are about 4 inch - but the sound is very clear and detailed (2x4.5W). On higher levels you cant turn the bass knob too much to the right, otherwise it starts to distort. The grill design of the tweeters look like there´s a ribbon tweeter behind: It´s not! I dont know if they did this just for style or if it has some special diffusion but the tweeters behind are cones.
You´re right, the design of this radio is very special. Its the classic functional and clean german design. My grundig is brown with crome details on the speakers and handle and on the top and the battery doors its silver. Looks really good. I saw another version all silver with different speaker grill .
Not bad either, but I like the silver rings on my RR 2000 more.

About the contec:
I cant tell much about this one. I didn´t find anything about it on google and don´t have a manual. On one hand its loud (2x12W) but on the other hand the main speakers are just 4 inch like in the grundig, but here you HAVE to turn the bass knob all to the right to hear it kickin. The tape needs new belts so I have to fix this first before I can tell more about the sound. I´m not expecting that much. Otherwise it comes with some clever features like the speaker-connectors. On this model you have a small case on the back of the speakers where the cable is stored. But you don´t need that cable when the speakers are attached to the main body because the same mechanism that holds it is also connecting the sound. Very cool feature.
About the design - it reminds me to the telefunken hifi studio 1M. Its smaller and just comes with 2-way-speakers but the knobs and led´s on this contec look quite nice, too. Ilike the look. I´m not a big fan of 3 piece boomboxes but this one got something that catched my eye.

Finally the JVC RC 680:
I didn´t know that this one is special. To me it looks like a cheaper box. The 5-Band-EQ on the front is more for the show than for a better sound. The sliders look and feel like really cheap plastic. I don´t know if it´s broken on my radio, but I don´t hear much differences, when I change position of the sliders. I have to take a look inside. Beside this it has just basic features: 4-band-radio, tape controls on the top, DIN-line in and 4.5 inch speakers behind 6.5 inch speakercaps Roll Eyes
